genius.com – classic or dud?

How do ILMers feel about having their favourite songs lyricsplained by internet randos and the occasional control-freaky artist?

Dud because I submitted the lyrics for Tommy Keene’s “Underworld” forever ago and they’re still not up on the site.

Indifferent. It is also what I feel about most of the internet.

Gloss first, submit lyrics later.

Largely dud - I will use it to look at lyrics and occasionally if I need to puzzle out what something arcane or totally unknowable to me, but lots of the notes are no good.

I was gonna say dud but in light of that sample: classic.

It's my go-to lyrics site, because they license the lyrics from the publishers (as do some other sites), they tend to be accurate, and the annotations are often useful.

(Some of the notes are dumb or low-quality, but that is the Internet.)

it is so much better than any other lyrics site

My one annoyance is if you're on a mobile browser and start clicking into annotations for a song, you can't easily click "back" to return to the album's tracklist... it cycles you back through every one of the notes you clicked on.

LOL, all the annotations on this track completely ignore the literal context (two con artists falling in love), instead trying to make the lyrics square with TS's personal life and older songs.
