I’ve trained the algorithm enough that it stopped recommending right wing videos. The most recent recommendation that hit my G spot was for the delightful “Silent Comedy Watch Party” which has live music accompaniment and expert commentary. (I feel compelled to add that this is real, not an On Cinema reference)

Post here when the shady YouTube subroutine Maresn3st suggests a cool album you've never heard

I'm getting a lot of new-age Japanese music from the 80s/90s in my recs, this is quite lovely.
It's what I imagine you would have heard in a Kichijoji stationery shop cafe in 1993.

The Kokubo compilation that came out a couple of years back is gorgeous: https://takashikokubo.bandcamp.com/album/healing-collection-quiet-comfort
And Yoshimura is all time.

the fact that musicians like Yoshimura & Hosono are getting popular due to a glitch/quirk in the YouTube algorithm is legitimately pretty awesome. even smaller record stores will stock a title or two and I think that's really cool.

This Chet Baker album "No Problem" from 1980, which was put out in Europe seems to be one that the software has caught on and has gotten 'popular' in a sense. It is a good record and has like 7.5 million clicks. I found it from listening to some Jim Hall last year.

Ah someone beat me to it on the chet Baker...this 1993 Mingus Big Band version of "Moanin" has definitely gone viral with over 24million takes. It is a heck of a burner and they did a bunch of little things as nods (like the Roland Kirk whistles etc) in the take.

There is a ton of hate and nasty sh!t on Youtube, but there is also some serious love in some music comments out there too.
