"Invert the Inverted Cross" is making me giggle.

not up to Aerosmith standards (Neanderthal), Monday, 5 July 2021 19:50 (two years ago) link

omg the lyrics

The cross of Christ
Turned upside down
Symbol of his supposed defeat
Those in darkness
Rejoice in this

But the truth is revealed to the chosen
Christ stormed the gates of hell
To take the keys thereof
Now the keys of death and Hades
Belong to the eternal one

Hell awaits the demonic forces
Who seek to pervert the cross
Flaming hellfire destruction
Is their final dwelling place

So
What remains to be said

Invert the inverted cross
The inversion is but a lie
Upright it should stand
No longer an inversion
But a symbol of supreme victory

Weak, Feeble, and Dying Anti-Christ

heyy nineteen, that's john belushi (the table is the table), Monday, 5 July 2021 20:09 (two years ago) link

“Invert The Inverted Cross” is damn catchy. I mean this record is total pastiche, it’s just a bunch of slightly changed Mayhem and Immortal riffs but it’s good fun.

i didn't think this kind of affect could be so effectively appropriated for instead of against christanity. "Drink From the Chalice of Blood" makes communion sound edgy as fuck. they don't seem to know where the inverted cross from (unless they think catholics are satanists) but same could be said for countless anti-religious bands

i wish more christian music would go all in on the sadomasochistic undercurrents within christianity, some of these lyrics come close intentionally or otherwise, most could just be by any non-religious or "satanic" metal band with a couple of word changes

All those titles except for 5, 7, 8 and maybe 11 could appear unchanged on any black metal album...

but also fuck you (unperson), Monday, 5 July 2021 21:13 (two years ago) link

Yeah, that was my first reaction as well. Especially the closer.

Even the lyrics, really:

At the end of time
the moon will be as blood
blackened is the sun
stars will fall to earth
fire

hail and blood
rain upon the earth
fallen star opens the abyss
smoke released darkens the sky
storms of thunder

disastrous quakes
hail pelts the earth
plagues infest
blood of a corpse
becomes the sea
assembly of kings

gather for war
fire descends
devouring all
complete destruction
absolute annihilation
the day of total Armageddon holocaust

Are any of them… inverted?

"So

Kills me as a lyric.

wow apparently they're from Melbourne.

It’s the guy from (then fairly big) christian death metal band Mortification.

Siegbran, Tuesday, 6 July 2021 13:38 (two years ago) link

"Release and Clothe the Virgin Sacrifice" 5:37

Covered back in the day by Frankie Howerd, only he called it "Put some clothes on, love - you'll catch your death!"

Mark G, Tuesday, 6 July 2021 13:56 (two years ago) link

oh yeah, I remember Mortification. really haven't thought about them since the mid-90s. looking back at their releases, they were surprisingly prolific.

That’s also the reason why a random one-off parody album got released by a big label like Nuclear Blast.
