"The Takeover"

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 28 November 2002 02:34 (twenty-three years ago)

"Nigga What, Nigga Who", even tho it's the least Jay-driven song of his that I really love. There's no making up for that beat elsewhere.

"so ghetto"

brains (cerybut), Thursday, 28 November 2002 03:40 (twenty-three years ago)

"22 Two's" - even if the beat is dull, it's the one thing that convinces me that maybe he is worth the hype.

Toss-up between "Big Pimpin" and "H.O.V.A. (Izzo)"

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 28 November 2002 11:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Heh I think I'd better pick "Big Pimpin" since I can actually get its title right!

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 28 November 2002 11:16 (twenty-three years ago)

"ain't no love" sounds like the great summer hit that never was but i'd probably have to go with "takeover".

michael wells (michael w.), Thursday, 28 November 2002 11:36 (twenty-three years ago)

is that your bitch?

dave k, Thursday, 28 November 2002 11:47 (twenty-three years ago)

It has to be Takeover, I think. The essence of what makes Jay so great is his enormous confidence, and this song is the best expression of that. It's his most Jay-Z record, if you see what I mean. But actually, just having "I. Will. Not. Lose. Ever. Fucker." to listen to repeatedly would do it - it's all in the cadences.

Jacob (Jacob), Thursday, 28 November 2002 12:36 (twenty-three years ago)

'hard knock life.' or 'can't knock the hustle' if you have a problem with that one.

"My 1st Song"

OK a year ago it was "Some People Hate". Now I'm gonna go with "My 1st Song" cause its such a great last song. Jay really knew what he was doing when it came to the feel on this one. The end where he's shouting out to all the folks he knew and/or worked with is almost like the end of a movie or something - sorta sad but sorta tryin' to make you smile at the same time. I love Jay-Z but part of me wants him to stay retired just so this will always be his last song.

Johnny Badlees (crispssssss), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 05:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Heartbreaker.

"Ain't No Nigga"

sometimes "Paper Chase" but that's mostly for the Foxy verses and the way she pronounces "gotta get that paper dawg"

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 06:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't have nearly enough Jay-Z albums ("Reasonable Doubt" and "The Black Album") but I'm going to go for "99 Problems".

Nick H (Nick H), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 17:05 (twenty-one years ago)

"Allure"

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 17:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, "My 1st Song" is better. I take "Allure" back.
