Wait For The Hook

On "The Bee" 7", by The Scientist, the best hook in the song - the point at which all the buzzing and bass and beats resolve into something amazing - comes 2'50" into a 3'30" track. Describe some other tracks that leave it late, and why.

(eg Clarence Carter's "Making Love", where the hook gets left late because it's coming to drag you sinners down to hell, approximately.)

"Radio Cure" by Wilco - if the theme at the end was repeated more often in the song, I don't know if it would be as good. But as it is, I sit anxiously through the melancholy to get to the pot of gold at the end.

Haha good call! That riff is the best thing on the album. I wish some DJ would play Denmark sometime.

In Par-T-One's-I'm So Crazy, there's a long intro with this weird "fa-fa-fa-fast, fa-fa-fa-fast" vocal sample all chopped up and indistinguishable and then it builds to this crescendo and the vocal just goes "fast fast fast fast JUST KEEP WALKIN!" and this big monster guitar riff comes in and the whole verse they sampled from INXS, "fast car drivin', sleek and modern" etc etc. It's a bloody amazing house track, but the beauty isn't truly revealed until the Hutchen's vocal comes in.

Would by Alice In Chains, the hook is the very last phrase of the song, it's what the whole thing builds to and it's a superb pay off

"Would" clearly has a chorus

Slint - "Good Morning, Captain." Amazing.

polvo - "kalgon/bend or break"

it's like a seven and a half minute track... the first six minutes and change is very avant arab-esque sophisto-skronk and then the first verse and vocals come in totally unexpectedly, pretty poppy (well, relatively for that record).

Sleater-Kinney, "Get Up" - the best hook ("aaaaawww get up!") comes about 3/4 into the song. Also "Redmen And Their Wives" by GbV.
