the video for this is a shining example of happiness in a hypermediated & hypersexualised world!

(haha it even made me download the version on Private Press version, which is terrible! & I swear there's bits of "Chains" on it!)

i feel the private press version of "six days" is a scar on that album. i haven't been able to listen to the mos def version (or see the video, obv.). what are they like? i think your description makes it sound good; i think.

I only heard seconds of the mos def mix, but I'm surprised by people's take on the original... I dig that track, been playing it a lot and putting it on mixes for friends. I like the album as a whole, but I heard that song on KAOS when I was out visiting my parents and it grabbed me... I wouldn't let us leave the car until it was over.

It's probably true that it doesn't sound like the rest of the album, but in terms of quality, I don't think it a scar. What is it you don't like?

I rarely see videos...I'll search these out. your description of it is compelling.

it's the singing. it totally ruins everything for me. it's not even that bad untill she gets to the line "it's only mundaaaaaeeeeeaaaeeeee" and so on. i'm just a very particular person when it comes to vocals.

i love that vocal, i love the PP version of 'Six Days' and i am very sane - isnt it a man singing though? hard to tell, but the original 'SIx Day War' was credited to Colonel Bagshot (though I doubt they either sang the song or they were indeed a real Colonel)

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 1 December 2002 21:00 (twenty-three years ago)

oh and the video for 'six days' is something to do with trying to reverse time due to having become consumed with jealousy and rage over an ex-girlfriend, i think i read somewhere

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 1 December 2002 21:02 (twenty-three years ago)

you're right, it is male vocals on the track. colonel bagshot is the group; i have no idea who actually sings on the track, but it's one (or any combination) of these guys:

DAVE DOVER vcls, bs, keyb'ds
BRIAN FARRELL vcls, gtr, stylophone
TERRY McCUSKER vcls, drms
KEN PARRY vcls, gtr, keyb'ds

ALBUM:
1 OH! WHAT A LOVELY WAR (Cadet Concept 50010) 1971

two years pass...
with the marching drumz and the mention of war in the lyrics, this was a good single to have released in late '02.

Soulwax's B-52s-ified version is definitive.

i've never seen a vid for the mos def version? does it differ from the wong kar wai vid?

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 19 May 2005 10:17 (twenty-one years ago)

i was trying to fit the lyrics of 'love shack' over the track, with mixed results.

It was officially released on the single. Check Discogs.
