gareth (gareth), Saturday, 30 November 2002 20:27 (twenty-three years ago)

It's ok, most of their stuff IS terrible. I always thought they were very overrated.

Ally (mlescaut), Saturday, 30 November 2002 21:21 (twenty-three years ago)

'what time is love' and 'last train to trancentral' in their original pure trance versions are two of thee greatest electronic compositions.

stirmonster, Saturday, 30 November 2002 21:35 (twenty-three years ago)

You don't even like Chill Out?

original bgm, Saturday, 30 November 2002 22:23 (twenty-three years ago)

But they're AAAHHHHRRRRRT!!!

Who cares what they sound like?

KATE, Saturday, 30 November 2002 22:23 (twenty-three years ago)

The World doesn't like them much either, or it wouldn't choose to continue the horrors of war.

Curt (cgould), Saturday, 30 November 2002 22:33 (twenty-three years ago)

I will say this once and say it loud. People who don't like the KLF fiddle with kids. That's it.

Lynskey (Lynskey), Saturday, 30 November 2002 23:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh yes. While the KLF have some duff tracks (that one with Tammy Wynette, for instance), they also have a run of corker pop classics. The pure trance versions of said pop classics are also brilliant. It is unfortunate that they will primarily be remembered as artschool ponces who burned a million quid. Ah well.

DV (dirtyvicar), Sunday, 1 December 2002 00:02 (twenty-three years ago)

I like thee cheesy mixes ov "What time is love" & "3am eternal", but just about everything else I've heard is a bit crap I think. Especially "Chill Out".

N0RM4N PH4Y, Sunday, 1 December 2002 00:17 (twenty-three years ago)

You're all weird.

Tag, Sunday, 1 December 2002 00:46 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm with Lynskey. Hang The Peedos.

The KLF won't be remembered as art school ponces, will they? Say it's not so. Surely Jason Donovan and My Bloody Valentine will be remembered for not burning a million quid.

Mike (mratford), Sunday, 1 December 2002 01:24 (twenty-three years ago)

My mouth is opening and closing but no noise is coming out.

N. (nickdastoor), Sunday, 1 December 2002 01:26 (twenty-three years ago)

wha?

And why is "3AM Eternal" not counted as the all time bestest dance tune of all time? There is no justice in this world.

dog latin, Sunday, 1 December 2002 01:52 (twenty-three years ago)

KLF = one of the best singles bands EVER!

Chill Out = Twittering nonsense.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 1 December 2002 12:22 (twenty-three years ago)

They're supposed to be good? As in first 3 Wire albums good? I thought they were an elaborate, fun prank. Stupid of me. Doctor Who, hey! Doctor Who.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 1 December 2002 13:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Doctorin' The TARDIS is one of the best ever number one hit singles.

Dosh Dosh Dosh Loads-A-Money

DV (dirtyvicar), Sunday, 1 December 2002 15:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Just because it's silly doesn't mean it can't be good.

Come on Gareth, they even mention Bradford in 'It's Grim Up North.

Anna (Anna), Sunday, 1 December 2002 17:20 (twenty-three years ago)

and shipley!

gareth (gareth), Sunday, 1 December 2002 17:41 (twenty-three years ago)

I listened to The Whit Room once and hated it.

I love the _idea_ of the KLF though.

meirion john lewis (mei), Sunday, 1 December 2002 20:18 (twenty-three years ago)

3am Eternal and Last Train To Transcentral ARE good songs, but that is two out of countless many!

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 1 December 2002 21:19 (twenty-three years ago)

'Justified & Ancient' is superb - i liked it at the time but i wasnt that mad on it...now it just sounds like the pinnacle of silly pop with dance roots, classic

no-one's coming up with good reasons WHY their other singles werent any good - just saying 'its crap' which itself is lame - baaaah

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 1 December 2002 21:26 (twenty-three years ago)

They are classic for 1987(What The Fuck Is Going On) alone!!!

that album is brilliant. It is fucking horrible, but absolute genius. It is what the Beastie Boys would have sounded like if they were a couple of middle-aged geezers from the UK. Anyone who would have the audacity to release an album like that deserves permanent ILM cannonization!

Jesus Gareth, you are making me resort ot exclamtion points! I never exclaim anything!!!

Mike Taylor (mjt), Monday, 2 December 2002 05:40 (twenty-three years ago)

hey gareth, it's allowed.

to be honest i would like their stuff reissued on cd so i can re-evaluate it properly. it's grim up north and america no more are currently the only two tracks of theirs to which i usually return.

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 2 December 2002 08:10 (twenty-three years ago)

I keep meaning to sell Chill Out, but when I listen, it's prettiness saves it.

Leee (Leee), Monday, 2 December 2002 08:36 (twenty-three years ago)

I like them more than nearly anything but away from the singles they had plenty of bad moments. I fear that even the Age Of Chance wd now sound better than 1987; the version of White Room that was actually released was dire - but Chill Out is an almost flawless record, there's nothing else that feels quite like it.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 2 December 2002 10:07 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm with Tom here - the White Room has touches of brilliance but overall it's oddly weak contrasted with what KLF are clearly capable of. Chill Out on the other hand is genius.

Roger Fascist (Roger Fascist), Monday, 2 December 2002 10:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Wait a second... they were SUPPOSED to be terrible!

Aaron W, Monday, 2 December 2002 15:17 (twenty-three years ago)

no-one's coming up with good reasons WHY their other singles werent any good - just saying 'its crap' which itself is lame

It's only lame if you disagree, you know. Sometimes there isn't a perfectly good explanation as to why something bores you.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 3 December 2002 03:10 (twenty-three years ago)

"Scarborough-on-Sea" is classic in itself.

robin carmody (robin carmody), Tuesday, 3 December 2002 03:36 (twenty-three years ago)

musically the klf's best work is the album "space" but they deleted it as soon as it was released. doesn't seem to be well known now...

bahktin, Tuesday, 3 December 2002 03:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Well I like the Tammy one (silly => sublime)

B.Rad (Brad), Tuesday, 3 December 2002 04:01 (twenty-three years ago)

I know Space and it's nice enough.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 3 December 2002 11:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Space is great, especially the 'Saturn' part (the proper techno bit).

The KLF are so great on so many levels. Seek out the first and last tracks on Bill Drummond's "The Man" album too: "True to the Trail" and "Such a Parcel of Rogues" featuring his dad.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 3 December 2002 18:30 (twenty-three years ago)

_Chill Out_ completely bent my head when I first heard it.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 3 December 2002 21:02 (twenty-three years ago)

I fucking hated dance music at the time and I thought "3 am Eternal" was amazing.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Tuesday, 3 December 2002 21:30 (twenty-three years ago)

it's not witty of me, but... ditto. *points at sundar*

Zora (Zora), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 19:02 (twenty-three years ago)

ten months pass...
I will say this once and say it loud. People who don't like the KLF fiddle with kids. That's it.

I heart Lynskey.

adaml (adaml), Saturday, 4 October 2003 08:27 (twenty-two years ago)

My mouth is opening and closing but no noise is coming out.

-- N. (nickdastoo...) (webmail), December 1st, 2002. (nickdastoor)

N., have you considered the possibility that you might be a fish?

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Sunday, 5 October 2003 22:30 (twenty-two years ago)

six months pass...
I got The White Room for $2 yesterday. It still sounds great!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Sunday, 18 April 2004 16:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Which version? The American one is pretty different.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Sunday, 18 April 2004 16:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I dont like KLF

They probably don't like you either.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 18 April 2004 16:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry, that was supposed to read as 'funny' as opposed to 'needlessly snarky'. Moreover, the KLF are really no longer a going concern, so you probably needn't worry yourself about it.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 18 April 2004 16:56 (twenty-two years ago)

US White Room>>>>>>>>>UK White Room

The Good Dr. Bill (Andrew Unterberger), Sunday, 18 April 2004 18:20 (twenty-two years ago)

CHILL OUT HAS NO GODDAMNED MELODIES ON IT!!!

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Sunday, 18 April 2004 20:12 (twenty-two years ago)

One thing I really hate about the KLF is that their remixes are completely different to their originals. Like the version of "3 AM Eternal" that starts out with the acappella "It's three a.m.... three a.m.... It's three a.m.... eternaaalllaaallllll." line that song's fucking great, but the OTHER version of "3 AM Eternal" that has the "KLF is gonna rock you" bit, that song's fucking wretched and sounds NOTHING like the other version. So when you hear someone say "I like 3 Am Eternal", you don't know which version of the song they're talking about. And that sucks.

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Sunday, 18 April 2004 20:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I like all versions of 3AM Eternal! What about best remixes? My pick is the Moody Boys mix of "What Time is Love", the bass line on that still goes through my head all the time.
