Naw, he doesn't suck, per se. He's not the "Saviour Of Music" that everyone makes him out to be.

Helltime Producto (Pavlik), Thursday, 5 December 2002 00:22 (twenty-one years ago) link

Haha, because see he's being ironic, and he's cool cuz he made a Sabbath reference, and he's not really a cunt-ankerous egotistical sob.

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 5 December 2002 00:23 (twenty-one years ago) link

No, Primus sucks. Ryan Adams merely blows.

Nick Mirov (nick), Thursday, 5 December 2002 01:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

But, it says on his own site that he sucks...

I think Adams, like Bob Pollard, needs a good editor; some foil who has the cajones to tell him if a song sucks. I've enjoyed some of his Whiskeytown stuff and his first solo album, but his last two releases have been very hit or miss - a lot of filler interspersed with a few decent songs. He doesn't suck, but I have to echo Helltime – he falls far short of his unearned reputation.

at least Pollard's shit stuff doesn't make you want to bash him senseless.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Thursday, 5 December 2002 03:22 (twenty-one years ago) link

winona ruined him

Queen G (Queeng), Thursday, 5 December 2002 10:12 (twenty-one years ago) link

I've never heard anything he's done, however:

- photos of him are boring
- he's a male solo performer
- he doesn't have a silly made up name
- his name rhymes with Bryan Adams

Hence he does suck, QED.

Is it possible to simultaneoulsy suck and blow?

dave225 (Dave225), Thursday, 5 December 2002 13:08 (twenty-one years ago) link

Does sucking through yr nose count?

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 5 December 2002 13:47 (twenty-one years ago) link

Heartbreaker - yes.

Gold - sweet jesus no.

Ryan Adams Is Not Even Vaguely Up Himself

Re: that NME article. I like Ryan, but I really hate it when men put down other women by calling them girls or women. Stop it Ryan.

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 5 December 2002 15:12 (twenty-one years ago) link

How is it putting down women to call them women?

o. nate (onate), Thursday, 5 December 2002 15:17 (twenty-one years ago) link

I fear Queen Geoff might be right. Heartbreaker is grebt. Whiskeytown is also fine. Gold has about a 35% hit to miss ratio in the two disc version. Which explains why I have no desire to hear a collection of throwaway tracks to a shoddy album.

bnw (bnw), Thursday, 5 December 2002 15:28 (twenty-one years ago) link

I think teeny meant "I really hate it when men put down other men by calling them girls or women", because he called Jack White a little girl. Which is pretty pathetic. Not that I'm a Jack White fan, but it's just a lame insult.

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 5 December 2002 15:30 (twenty-one years ago) link

I started out loving Ryan Adams. Or at least, the first couple of Whiskeytown albums. They still sound great. And 'Heartbreaker' is pretty decent.

But the man is revealing himself to be more and more of a knob the longer he goes on. I can't belive that Jack White interview. It's worse than the 'Summer of 69, here's your money back' story.

James Ball (James Ball), Thursday, 5 December 2002 15:31 (twenty-one years ago) link

Jack White always comes over as a right knob in interviews too though. DONT READ INTERVIEWS KIDS!

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 5 December 2002 15:37 (twenty-one years ago) link

So, is it funny that it says "Ryan Adams sucks" on his own site or has he just lost it?

, Thursday, 5 December 2002 15:42 (twenty-one years ago) link

As someone else mentioned up-thread, this "____ Sucks!" thing has already been done by Primus. So I wouldn't say it's that funny now when Ryan does it.

o. nate (onate), Thursday, 5 December 2002 15:45 (twenty-one years ago) link

Didn't Bush's campaign team buy up a load of URL's saying Bush Sucks or something like that then redirect them to his site?

Mr Swygart (mrswygart), Thursday, 5 December 2002 18:06 (twenty-one years ago) link

oops sorry yes I didn't proofread my post. Thanks Nicole.

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 5 December 2002 18:30 (twenty-one years ago) link

Goddamn it you're gonna make me tell the story? Someone was selling Ryan Adams Sucks t-shirts in front of one of his shows so he decided to start selling him himself and then put it in his webpage. Ho Ho Ho.

I would love to see Jack White and Ryan Adams in a match of wits. Go at it boys!

Aaron W, Thursday, 5 December 2002 18:35 (twenty-one years ago) link

Now I wish I never slept with him.

Sean (Sean), Thursday, 5 December 2002 18:46 (twenty-one years ago) link

Why?

, Thursday, 5 December 2002 18:59 (twenty-one years ago) link

Because he didn't suck? (Oh, that was bad, I'M SORRY)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 5 December 2002 19:18 (twenty-one years ago) link

He's not the "Saviour Of Music" that everyone makes him out to be
Damn...does this mean I'm not allowed to crucify him?

Lord Custos Omega (Lord Custos Omega), Thursday, 5 December 2002 23:39 (twenty-one years ago) link

I really like Ryan Adams!

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Friday, 6 December 2002 14:08 (twenty-one years ago) link

i really liked him, but this shtick of his with releasing demos - fuck that man, he's a whoring businessman not the great artist or divine resuscitator of gram parsons

Queen G (Queeng), Saturday, 7 December 2002 08:42 (twenty-one years ago) link

sixteen years pass...

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/02/13/arts/music/ryan-adams-women-sex.html

Some now say that Adams’s rock-star patronage masked a darker reality. In interviews, seven women and more than a dozen associates described a pattern of manipulative behavior in which Adams dangled career opportunities while simultaneously pursuing female artists for sex. In some cases, they said, he would turn domineering and vengeful, jerking away his offers of support when spurned, and subjecting women to emotional and verbal abuse, and harassment in texts and on social media. The accounts have been corroborated by family members or friends who were present at the time, as well as by correspondence from Adams reviewed by The New York Times.
