the shape of hardcore to come: thread for DEEP SAGE (2024) by gouge away

instantly my favorite album of the year. groovy, inventively-arranged (the piano on the title track!) post-hardcore music a la fugazi, hoover, jesus lizard, sometimes they even remind me of a way harder pretty girls make graves and i love it. the sound is spliced a bit with indie rock and shoegaze but not so much that it softens the brutality of its impact. can't believe they broke up and then reunited to record this, but i can understand why the music called to be finished, it doesn't sound a thing like refused but it gives me the same feeling as the first time i listened to the shape of punk to come... they're doing something special here that i think other bands are going to pick up on

Sorry to maybe be that old guy, but will have to listen more I guess to see if they are adding a twist or spin to post-hardcore , or doing something similar that sounds equally vital in a way that won't have me just wanting to listen to the other acts you mentioned

If I was somewhere between 16 and 23 right now, and this band was opening for a band I liked, I'd probably leave having enjoyed their set. But I don't think I'd buy their record. I definitely don't hear them doing anything new.
