Defend the Indefensible (& S/D) - Music Reaction Youtubers

These have a really bad rep, that's because 99% of them are somewhere between bad and really fucking bad. Many of them seem to be building brands as influencers and have little or nothing to say about the music. Others allow people to pay for suggestions, and all the suggestions are tedious fucking contemporary prog-metal bullshit. But the very few good ones are like sharing a favourite track or LP with an interested friend, and that's always a good experience.

The few I like:

@JustJP - comes from a jazz/soul background and spends a lot of time thinking about the music, not afraid to say when he doesn't like something, only person I've ever seen react to many favourites.
@fishoutofwaterseries1424 - This guy just bombards you with videos for his tiny number of subscribers, loves smooth, spiritual jazzy & soulful stuff, really down on anything harsh or nasty-sounding, I do not always agree with him but love his honesty
@TheCharismaticVoice - Really famous and only sometimes of interest, but when she's enthusiastic about something then it's worth watching - particularly (ok, only) if she has something to say about the singing technique
@VirginRock - classical harpist who seems to have been homeschooled/Amish? Takes A LOT of time to analyse each song, tbh I find her very much hit and miss, but she's an odd and interesting person anyway, and has plenty to say.

Some songs which have usually interesting reactions:

Focus - Hocus Pocus (Live on Midnight Special 1973)
Dave - Black (Brit Awards 2020)
Lucille Bogan - Shave 'Em Dry
Al Jarreau - Take Five (Live 1976)

I have wasted too much time on this stuff and have to wean myself off it a bit, maybe should go to more shows tbh., but please share yr thoughts here too, even if it's "stop watching these and get back to your 1951 mixes!"

I've seen a couple annoying things on instagram where some doofus will say "I've never listened to the Wipers/Joy Division/Morbid Angel etc so we're gonna give it a listen" and then film themselves listening, I don't get the point

Classical Composer Listens to Phish for the First Time

This kind of stuff has shown up in my feed from time to time, but I don't have the patience for it, particularly if they pause the song to interject their observations.

I wanna hate on this stuff but seeing young peoples first time reactions to something like ELP's Tarkus is genuinely really cool, often they genuinely seem to have no idea that this kind of music even exists
