Is noise more authentic when generated in "real time"?

Do you have less respect for people who churn their caustic waveforms out through pass after pass in their happy little pink iBook's commercial sound editor?

I DO.

Dude, don't fuck with Masami Akita. He's got a lot of knives:

Merzbow *can* unleash a fucking fury live though with several powerbooks.

YNGWIE REACHES TOKYO...MERZBOW UNLEASHES THE FUCKING FURY!!!

depends on the nature of the performance...

generally, i prefer music generated then and there. samples are fine to a point... but something needs to go on... DAT tapes are only fine when you're adding to them or you and your twin brother are masters of hairbrush and mirror music.

i want something more than a cd listening party when i come to a live event with the artist in attendence. i'm hoping for some sort of performance.

but looking at something like hansgrusel's krankencabinet, there's so much more than the music in the performance. (and they need automated sounds to be able to do all of the other stuff they do...)

God, I would love to see a duel between Yngwie and Merzbow.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 16 December 2002 23:06 (twenty-three years ago)

all i know is, merzbow was better back when he was moving air molecules with 80 pedals and an amplified desklamp or tambourine or something. the laptop shit generally bores the hell out of me.

but in the end, sound is all that matters.

Pleasurehorse is insane live. He dances around, twiddles nobs, steps on peddles and hits buttons.

Ian Johnson, Monday, 16 December 2002 23:29 (twenty-three years ago)

I hate seeing a computer on stage. I prefer seeing Pleasurehorse play with a table full of effects than the laptop stuff he's been leaning towards recently. Merzbow sucks. If Slow Death ever performs, it will be the scariest noise show ever. (If I don't get arrested.)

Huh? What the HELL is hairbrush and mirror music? And where do I get some?

phil jones (interstar), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 15:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Ha ha phil doesn't know about hairbrush and mirror music!!

Perhaps he is a master of the tennis raquet racket instead.

Mind you, at first I thought HB&M referred to 'something for the weekend, sir?' type music....

What the HELL is hairbrush and mirror music?

here's your clue...

Baby Don't Forget My Number
Baby, don't be shy when you're holding my hand
'cause as time goes by you've got to understand it's you.
And it's with you.
B- b- b- baby, in your eyes I see you so clearly
that I love you so strong and you never go wrong.
I got the best for you.
So when you're in doubt and needin' someone,
baby, call my line, call me anytime.
I'll be there for you.
I've been searching high.
I've been searching low.
Ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba baby,
don't forget my number.
Ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba baby,
love is stronger than thunder.
Ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba baby,
don't forget my number.
Love will see you through.
I've been searching high.
I've been searching low.
Wanna spend my life with you.
Ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba.
Ba ba ba ba ba and I dance with you.
Ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba.
Ba ba ba ba ba love will see you through.
B- b- b- baby, in your eyes I see you so clearly
that I love you so strong and you never go wrong.
I got the best for you.

That's not on ANY of my hairbrush and mirror comps, what gives?!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 17:02 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll say this...

It is damn-near IMPOSSIBLE to rawk out on stage with a laptop, there's something very wrong about getting all sweaty, movin' and groovin', thriving off the fans' energy, and grabbing your mouse and clicking on an icon.
