The Kinks have "Father Christmas".

Arthur (Arthur), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 01:51 (twenty-three years ago)

It's sort of funny, Daniel. It's Ray's idea of a punk Xmas carol--the punk kids beat up Father Christmas because he gives all the toys to the little rich boys.

Damn! I checked w/ my dad (gigantic Kinks fan), too- we were both flabbergasted, because if any band was practicaly *born* to do a x-mas song...oh well, so they have. Will have to check it out.

Talk Talk/ Mark Hollis

Slayer

Lord Custos Omega (Lord Custos Omega), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 02:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Slade. Oh, wait...

Charlie (Charlie), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 02:50 (twenty-three years ago)

That shoulda been Suede, obv. Pulp and Madness spring to mind immediately as well.

Basically, *every* band should have a Christmas song - it ought, by rights, to be the main reason for starting a band in the first place.

Cradle of Filth
Something with the band's usual sensitivity and restraint

Bruce Urquhart (Bruce Urquhart), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 02:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Talk Talk Xmas would give me faith.

KILLING JOKE
FIREWATER

Puddle Of Mudd should do Santa Hates Me. Video could have children getting mad at their lame presents, ripping them up and screaming at their parents. Plus the singer could replace his black cap with a santa hat.

Or Fred Durst could sing about how Santa does it all for the cookies.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 04:10 (twenty-three years ago)

The Geraldine Fibbers (or just Carla Bozulich and Nels Cline)
American Analog Set
Les Savy Fav (but they have to make a video for the song just so Tim Harrington can dress up as Santa Claus)
Masada (well, a Hanukkah song, anyway)

Obligatory joke answer: A VERY MERZBOW CHRISTMAS

Nick Mirov (nick), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 08:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Add N to (Xmas)

Matthew (faster), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 08:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Che Fu
Daniel Bedingford
The Avalanches

Andrew WK & Pulp are v.good answers. Also, are we going to resume counting?

Ess Kay (esskay), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 09:20 (twenty-three years ago)

I have to admit, that cracked me up.

A Deep Merzbow! - to the idea of A Merzbow-y Xmas (thanx, Nick Mirov)

discarding the 'bow - Merz, the band, could handle an x-carol or two too, i believe

and... it'd be surprisingly easy for Rolling Stones to twist and half-shout one of their existing tunes into an Xmas rated song - that'd be "Santa's Little Helper" then

Aphex Twin.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 14:54 (twenty-three years ago)

The easy way round this is to have a loop of some sleigh bells running alongside Winamp. Something like Traktor that will bpm match the two is even better. Instant Santa Cruise.
