What other genre(s) is it closest too? Hip hop? House?

What's hip-house and hi-nrg? I think I get it though sort of, after doing a google group search which is what I should have done. I don't recognize the names of performers or songs, for the most part.

Freestyle (as its called in the NY tri-state area - though I doubt Connecticut ever had much of a taste for it) is more like "Nuyorican Electro Love Songs" or "Endless Romantic Young New York Latino Variations On Arthur Baker-Style Electro".

Yeah. That's it.

Anything related to Lisa Lisa is alright with me.

It's all starting to make sense now. I remember dancing to some of this stuff at college dances back in the 80's. "Little" Louie Vega is married to India.

some of this stuff

More like one song, actually. But have heard a couple others.

Eddie Palmieri helped India pull off a nice salsa album (though it could probably be condensed to EP length), but I haven't heard much else by her that I like. The song "Sola" had some sentimental/nostalgic associations for me, but not enough to make me hang on to the whole CD (or to even want to play the song). She's got a new one, but I haven't heard anything from it yet, which shows how little I have been going out dancing lately. :(

one year passes...
Louie Vega is Hector Lavoe's nephew! Small world. Here's something new by him, though the "review" isn't too positive.

Start with some Debbie Deb, move onto Jenny Burton and round it off with Cover Girls. God I love this stuff.
