Or studio chatter within the song itself (not on the ends)

discuss.

Temptation inside Your Heart - VU ...? (kinda)

dave225 (Dave225), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 14:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Also, the Black Dice side of the split with Erase Errata and the Black Dice / Wolf Eyes thing.

Jonathan Williams (ex machina), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 14:33 (twenty-three years ago)

BTW: the subject is a bit of studio chatter from "Ron" off of Slint's Tweez

Jonathan Williams (ex machina), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 14:35 (twenty-three years ago)

And it's about the best bit of the whole record, combined w/that riff. "I can only hear out the one side", or something.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 14:37 (twenty-three years ago)

I think Tweez has some way better songs. "Carol" for example. (I was googling to find the name of that tune from the lyrics about painting houses and I found out that Tweez's songs are all named after the band's parents.)

Jonathan Williams (ex machina), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 14:42 (twenty-three years ago)

You needed google to tell you something off the back of the record?

hstencil, Wednesday, 18 December 2002 14:45 (twenty-three years ago)

hey I like the whole thing! I just like TALKING, it ROCKS

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 14:55 (twenty-three years ago)

hstencil: I'm at work! And I never read that record!

Jonathan Williams (ex machina), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 15:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Dude, I'm at work too. I just guessed that it was their parents like when I first got the dang thing back in like 1990 or whenever it came out. Then I found out that Rhoda was Britt's dog, too.

There's some excellent studio chatter on the beginning of "Irene" by Caetano Veloso, also with the sound of someone rewinding the tape. I love the sound of rewinding tape.

Also, the funny thing is that the headphones aren't fucked up. In a lot of studio settings, monitor headphones only playback in mono. I forget why, though.

hstencil, Wednesday, 18 December 2002 15:57 (twenty-three years ago)

"Runaway" has some hilarious studio patter in it where Janet makes fun of herself for duffing notes.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 16:06 (twenty-three years ago)

OK, ready, let's do it! - Human League: Being Boiled

Does this count?

Bill E (bill_e), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 20:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, and the end of 'Don't Mug Yourself', obv.

Bill E (bill_e), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 20:18 (twenty-three years ago)

That whole "You fuckin' die, I said!" bit on Surfer Rosa

Ian Johnson (orion), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 20:47 (twenty-three years ago)

My all-time favourite of these is on the "Substance" version of New Order's "Confusion". As the massed "why can't you see"s fade out, someone who I can only assume is Hooky moans "Fookin' Housemartins !"

I'm still not sure where the thread titles's "Steve.." line comes from. It's surely not from "I Started Something I Couldn't Finish", where Moz is clearly heard saying "Stephen (Street, I suppose), shall we do that again?"

Love- "Your Mind And We Belong Together" from "Forever Changes". You can hear Arthur Lee berate Johnny Echols about his guitar tones. "I don't understand your trip man...."

"Steve, these headphones are fucked up, they're only comin' outta one side, like... Should I just bear with it, or what? Shit... They're fucked. No way, please get me some new headphones."

hstencil, Thursday, 19 December 2002 14:53 (twenty-three years ago)

"Josephine, do you think you're going bald?"

You tell me from where.
Go on, I know you can do it.

meirion john lewis (mei), Thursday, 19 December 2002 19:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Breeders, Pod. That would be Walford.

hstencil, Thursday, 19 December 2002 19:28 (twenty-three years ago)

"That's plenty, studio." from the first Fall LP (can't remember the song). It's at the end but the song doesn't really finish until afterward.

nickn (nickn), Thursday, 19 December 2002 21:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Correct in one.

Okay, an easier one:

"Naah, leave it on"

meirion john lewis (mei), Thursday, 19 December 2002 22:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Tweez sucks, apart from Carol. The chatter makes it even more annoying.

Callum (Callum), Thursday, 19 December 2002 23:37 (twenty-three years ago)

"Aah, that helps"

- Liam Hayes, as he turns the microphone on, at the start of the first Plush album.
