What do y'all think? I love it. I bought it without having heard, except for the Guitar track on Blue Skied An' Clear. It is definitely comparable to MBV, so Ned especially should check them out if he hasn't already--but they aren't shoegaze, too electronic.

All sounds good to me! And I need that tribute album, to be sure...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 21 December 2002 03:38 (twenty-three years ago)

y'know i heard a rumour that it actually WAS kevin shields! no one actually believes this

bob zemko (bob), Saturday, 21 December 2002 03:49 (twenty-three years ago)

no, don't bother with the tribute album. the Guitar track is the only decent one. can't vouch for 'sunkissed,' but the extent of what i've heard from Guitar... well, it's the closest thing to 'loveless' I've encountered.

haven't heard the kevin shields rumor... if that's true, he's not treading new ground and his work with Curve is far more impressive.

but the blue skied an' clear tribute album suXoRs (with like two or three exceptions)

geeta (geeta), Saturday, 21 December 2002 13:36 (twenty-three years ago)

I wish it was less trip-hop, and the twee singing on some of the last songs makes me cringe, but a couple of the earlier songs are classic (not sure of the titles).

Curt (cgould), Saturday, 21 December 2002 15:28 (twenty-three years ago)

The 2nd disc of Blue Skied an' Clear is considerably better. The Guitar album is actually one of the Morr releases I wasn't that excited about this year. The use of noise/melody doesn't click in all the ways it needs to. And ack twee vocals. O-k at best.

Honda (Honda), Saturday, 21 December 2002 21:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, the tribute portion of the tribute was really disappointing: I liked the second side, though, just as a straight Morr compilation. That Guitar track was indeed great, a perfect reenactment of both Loveless and what Medicine did with Loveless. The full album is pretty great, although I didn't find it notably super or anything.

"sunkissed" is one of the worst songs I have ever heard.

three years pass...
I'm listening to their newest, "Tokyo". Ugh. I liked "Sunkissed" because it was loud and fuzzed out, but this one takes its cues from traditional Japanese music. I feel like I'm stuck in a massage parlour and they won't let me leave. "Steve Roach Sleepily Explores His Ethnic Side, Part CCLXXVIII -- The Outtakes". I'm not sure if this belongs on my hard drive after tomorrow.

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 4 March 2006 07:58 (twenty years ago)

"Sakura Coming" ... this is more like it. Screw all that plinky junk, bring the noise!

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 4 March 2006 08:07 (twenty years ago)

yeah, there's a clear cut difference between the japanse named tracks and the ones with an english title. love them both to bits though. you might want to search the p2p for jap-only release honeysky which is not just chronologically in between sunkissed and tokyo..

willem -- (willem), Saturday, 4 March 2006 10:22 (twenty years ago)

The Japanese-sounding tracks are clearly better than the louder onces (which should have been left off). The guitar-heavy ones have been done to death...who needs that.

Patrick South (Patrick South), Saturday, 4 March 2006 11:11 (twenty years ago)

does the singer still let the music down?

keyth (keyth), Saturday, 4 March 2006 15:20 (twenty years ago)

Most of the tracks are instrumental, but a Japanese woman sings on the shoegazey ones.

Patrick South (Patrick South), Saturday, 4 March 2006 15:43 (twenty years ago)

this is unexpectedly great.

jergins (jergins), Saturday, 4 March 2006 16:36 (twenty years ago)

"House Full of Time" still sounds great, the rest of Sunkissed...not so good.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Saturday, 4 March 2006 18:25 (twenty years ago)

is it true that the second record, the japan only one, is a country record?

keyth (keyth), Sunday, 5 March 2006 00:22 (twenty years ago)

no, see my comment upthread.

willem -- (willem), Sunday, 5 March 2006 09:48 (twenty years ago)

ah, sorry, i had read a blurb on this new one that mentioned the second one was a country record. i was misled. i listened to sunkissed again, it's really not very good at all so i'll get the new secret shine ep instead i think.

keyth (keyth), Sunday, 5 March 2006 14:48 (twenty years ago)

this is super boring. i could barely stand to listen to it the whole way through.

geeta (geeta), Sunday, 5 March 2006 16:28 (twenty years ago)

(the 'tokyo' record, that is)
