Comet Gain "Realistes"

I've heard amazing things about this record but haven't heard it. I get the feeling it's as good as the better Chisel/Ted Leo stuff... am I way off?

This album is amazing. The first 6 songs especially are peerless. WOW, every time.

Yes. Especially Why I Try To Look So Bad. The follow-up is great too but this is my favorite.

I like it a lot, but my aging ears wish it were recorded as well as Sneaky. Comet Gain are not, I don't think, well served by Mid Fi.

They are one of the few bands that would actually get me out to see them live these days. The one time I saw them they were everything I wanted them to be.

Are they still a going concern here in 2008?

sounded every bit as great as it did umpteen years ago. Really shoulda been a hit, somewhere!

And not to change the topic, but the guy who posted that video has a collection that matches my taste in the mid 90's in a pretty scary way.

They played a gig in London a couple of days ago, Alex. I didn't go though. As for new records, I haven't heard of any, but I guess they are still going.

Gonna have to dig that disc out now.

city fallen leaves is only from 18 months or so ago, so it's not impossible they're working on a newie..

They are still going, but as haphazardly, if not more so, than ever (and we love 'em for it, oh yes). David was living in France for a while, and various members were in various other places. They're playing a few UK dates soon, from what I know.

There's meant to be some kind of comp of stuff covering the various lineups with a few new songs added in, and a double-A single I believe. That was the news back in November I think.

They're doing a super sounding show in Brighton in early April, and playing that Indietracks thing in Derbyshire in late July. Can we go emil.y? ;)

okay about time etc the new LP is called 'BROKEN RECORD PRAYERS',yeah not too snappy i know but all jons suggestions had either swearwords or michael jackson references,there will be 20 songs of A and B sides,sessions,new songs,and various 'stuff'including BEAUTIFUL DESPAIR/YOUNG LIONS/YOU CAN HIDE YER LOVE/LOOK AT YOU NOW YR CRYING/TIGHTEN UP/EMOTION PICTURES/BEATNIK/IF YOO EVER WALK OUT../BROTHERS OFF THE BLOCK/JACK NANCE HAIR/HE WALKED BY NITE/ASLEEP ON SNOW/IF I HADDA SOUL/RECORD PRAYER/HARD TIMES/FREEBIRD/INTERSTELLAR OVERDRIVE/PUFF THE MAGIC DRAGON/HELTER SKELTER/EBONY AND IVORY/HAMBURGER LADY...okay the last few might not make the cut,it will also have BOOKS OF CALIFORNIA/LOVE WITHOUT LIES which ,funnily enough,is the new single due out soonish on WHATS YOUR RUPTURE records on tasty double a side-i will let you know release dates as soon as i know and the labels will be MILOU and WHATS YER RUP in europe/usa..is that alrite?we also may play some gigs to 'promote' it hink is the word..this stuff but then again maybe we got better things to do like sit on the beach or in the pub or the libraray..anyway other records such as the new new record will be worked on very soon too it went down to 87 new songs fer awhile but now its back up to 105...thas all folks enjoy the summer

love this record and this band!

New single out in a fortnight, gig launch party at The Macbeth in Hoxton on 18th October. Great song too, 'Love Without Lies'. And the album thing is out at the end of the month.

Can we put bets on how many actual members of Comet Gain will turn up?

still a top bunch of songs though. 'you can hide' and 'if i had a soul' are particularly wonderful

i remember getting v cross that their version of beatnik does not mention it's a Clean song anywhere on the cover or label

I get no New Order out of this at all, but it is a really good Comet Gain record.

Really like this album, which gets better as it goes along. Who listens to them? I find their continuing existence kind of puzzling, even though I've been a fan for like 16 years...

i wore myself out on it a bit, but i do think it's their strongest one since tigertown pictures

That's the one that's on repeat at the moment. Yeah, it's really very great and too bad nobody cares.

I really like this album, too. Haven't listened to it in awhile though. I'm not sure why nobody seems to care either.

Do these guys have any songs more in the vein of Love Without Lies? Everything else I've heard is a little bit shambling-indie for my tastes..
