Yeah! It's like my 10th favorite Talking Heads single, man! Best Band EVAH!!

Adam A. (Keiko), Tuesday, 24 December 2002 05:57 (twenty-three years ago)

It's ok, but it's no Once in a Lifetime.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 24 December 2002 07:19 (twenty-three years ago)

True. It's no "Psyco Killer" either, but I still think it's a classic.

P.s. Ally, this not only the last ass rocket on the tour, but it's the last ass rocket we'll ever do, for you.

Helltime Producto (Pavlik), Tuesday, 24 December 2002 07:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Dud. Big time dud. This song spelled the beginning of the end for the Heads.

maria b (maria b), Tuesday, 24 December 2002 07:41 (twenty-three years ago)

it weren' the beginning of the end it were the end itself. worst song on worst album by band with most shocking downward plunge ever with the possibe exception of Roxy

dave, do you really think True Stories was worse than Naked?

(I'm undecided myself - no time for either...)

But Little Creatures was the beginning of the end... (arguably, it may have been Speaking in Tongues...)

dave225 (Dave225), Tuesday, 24 December 2002 12:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Dave225 - yes. 'Naked' had two passable tracks (I think, pls don't say "which ones") which is two more than 'True Stories' had

dave q, Tuesday, 24 December 2002 12:57 (twenty-three years ago)

nononono! Ytrue Stories had *lots* of good tracks!

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 24 December 2002 14:04 (twenty-three years ago)

... Lots of good tracks to kick myself in the pants for shelling out the cash for at the time - and that was my "work yer ass off" teenage cash too. I was pissed. And, you're right, Naked was the nadir.

maria b (maria b), Tuesday, 24 December 2002 15:15 (twenty-three years ago)

I like Naked. If it's not necessarily convincing "world music" (and what does it take to be "convincing"?), it's a good, fun, rhythmic "Byrne experiments with Afro-Latino textures and makes a somewhat different-sounding Talking Heads record" sorta thing. And "Nothing But Flowers" has some of my favorite Heads lyrics, or at least it did when I was impressionable enough to be impressed by anti-hippie rhetoric as hippie satire. (Actually, I still like it.)

Or do you hate Naked because it spawned Dave Matthews?

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 24 December 2002 15:25 (twenty-three years ago)

OMG,.. Naked SO spawned Dave Matthews. That's perceptive as hell. I'm using that...

maria b (maria b), Tuesday, 24 December 2002 22:07 (twenty-three years ago)

... and yeah, I suppose that's why I hate it. Well, let me rephrase that... I don't HATE it like I hate Dave Matthews, but it's largely a pedestrian effort. Talking Heads for me was all about the feeling I got listening to Fear Of Music for the first time. And the second time. And the hundredth time. And even now.

maria b (maria b), Tuesday, 24 December 2002 22:09 (twenty-three years ago)

This song really really sucks. I knew I couldn't care less about Talking Heads when this song came out. I don't even want to read responses about why people like this song; nothing will change my mind about how crap it is.
