Just watch this camp Detroit rock go ballistic in 2003.

Only The Darkness can stop them

sonicred (sonicred), Sunday, 29 December 2002 12:42 (twenty-three years ago)

no they won't. one trick pony. danger high voltage will explode but watch them become relegated to one hit wonders very quickly

simon 803 (simon 803), Sunday, 29 December 2002 12:56 (twenty-three years ago)

i think they might actually be two trick ponys. 'gay bar' is stoopidly great although it will stumble at number 67 in the chart.

stirmonster, Sunday, 29 December 2002 13:01 (twenty-three years ago)

'Gay Bar' is quite good, need to hear more - they can be as big as Talking Heads if they try

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 29 December 2002 13:02 (twenty-three years ago)

the problem being that a band like Talking Heads could never be considered 'hugely popular' anymore, could they?

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 29 December 2002 13:03 (twenty-three years ago)

true, although i'm not sure if there's much more to them than 'danger! high voltage!' (but what a peak!!!)... they need to make up some new stories for their interviewers soon, too...

sxxx

D!HV is amazing and fantastic and very probably already single of next year. However, the b-sides felt a bit so-so, and somehow it just feels like there's a Polyphonic Spree sized disappointment lurking round the corner...

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 29 December 2002 13:22 (twenty-three years ago)

They're the new Deee-Lite.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 29 December 2002 13:23 (twenty-three years ago)

I still want to know what the remix Jacques Lu Cont has been playing is.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 29 December 2002 13:27 (twenty-three years ago)

There's three remixes on the 12"
A1 Soulchild 12" Blitz Mix
B1 Kilogram Mix
B2 Kilogram Dub

Notice that the XL reissue is the Soulchild Radio Mix and not the Wildbunch original version. The differences aren't all that huge, though.

JoB (JoB), Sunday, 29 December 2002 13:39 (twenty-three years ago)

someone plz plz plz tell me why they are no longer wildbunch and are now electric 6?

minna (minna), Sunday, 29 December 2002 13:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Cos of Bristol DJ collective The Wild Bunch, who had a retrospective out this year.

Tom (Groke), Sunday, 29 December 2002 13:54 (twenty-three years ago)

thanks tom :)

minna (minna), Sunday, 29 December 2002 13:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Did anyone get that Wildbunch Bristol Collective CD?

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 29 December 2002 14:18 (twenty-three years ago)

what did the WildBunch do anyway? did they take the credit for production duties on 'Blue Lines' and Neneh Cherry's 'Homebrew' (or was that all just Nellee Hooper)? what else?

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 29 December 2002 14:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, I love Elephant 6 too!

William R Henderson (Cabin Essence), Monday, 30 December 2002 18:07 (twenty-three years ago)

The Detroit band to look out for is The Sights.

Mike Taylor (mjt), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 08:06 (twenty-three years ago)

three months pass...
can we definitively answer the question: do Electric 6 have any good songs other than "Danger! High Veaultage!"

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 18:36 (twenty-three years ago)

at least "Gay Bar" and I saw them live last week and they seemed to have a bunch of other good ones.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 19:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Gay Bar, dance Commander and She's White are all great

I lost control of my Rock'n'roll

They're already big by getting this far. They're older and wiser than many new kids on the block cos thay;re not new kids on the block

They know they are having their 15 minutes. What does it matter if they never go on and make 7 albums

2003 will be their year though and no mistaking

sonicred (sonicred), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 20:26 (twenty-three years ago)

two years pass...
I guess I was wrong

sonicred (sonicred), Thursday, 16 February 2006 23:04 (twenty years ago)

not really!

j blount (papa la bas), Thursday, 16 February 2006 23:06 (twenty years ago)

I think they're trying to do something a bit different than be Talking Heads, and good for them. "Rock 'n' Roll Evacuation" and "Jimmy Carter" were two of the best songs of last year and that neither got brought up amongst all the de rigeur "we pay attention to politics, really!" blather in P&J is hilarious.

Eppy (Eppy), Thursday, 16 February 2006 23:10 (twenty years ago)

keep fighting that good fight, kids.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 16 February 2006 23:21 (twenty years ago)

Right back atcha.

Eppy (Eppy), Thursday, 16 February 2006 23:29 (twenty years ago)

i lost interest in this band after I heard "Gay Bar". they aren't bad, but I wasn't that interested. i don't get the repetitive thing and vocals and lyrics beyond it sorta being funny and then what?

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Thursday, 16 February 2006 23:30 (twenty years ago)

The new album isn't repetitive much at all.

Eppy (Eppy), Thursday, 16 February 2006 23:33 (twenty years ago)

i'm possibly open to hearing more then. but i fear i'm not affected in the right way by the camp.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Thursday, 16 February 2006 23:35 (twenty years ago)

"Rock and Roll Evacuation" is embarrassingly bad. The rest of the record is pretty decent, if campy.

cdwill, Friday, 17 February 2006 00:11 (twenty years ago)

I heard Gay Bar played tonight on a programme called Holiday Swap Hell or something. A bisexual couple took a homophobic ex-military type family to SF with amusing results, probably more so than E6's career pattern. One of the kids said "I'd have felt more comfortable watching an orphanage burn down"

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Friday, 17 February 2006 00:18 (twenty years ago)

"Rock and Roll Evacuation" is awesome. Rest of the album is good as well.
