i say 'new' but i think its been out about 3 or 4 months at least - sneaked right past me that one. but i thought '1999' had its moments and wondered if anyone's heard the follow-up and want to pass verdict before i download it anyway

I liked the Sound of Violence, I'm A Woman was a bit too long and not too original. I don't own this but I've heard it, it's just average really, there's one other good song but the name escapes me. Download Medicine 8-Iron Stylings instead!

"Sound of Violence" is brilliant in any and all forms!

I think the entire album is pretty decent, nothing you could call -bad- on it.. but only a few tracks are anything fantastic- those tracks being: Thrilla, Hi Water, Till We Got U and Me, and Sound of Violence. It's interesting enough to listen to without skipping tracks, and it will make you bob your head/shake your ass which qualifies it as a good dance record by my standards.

The new cassius got me bored.
Next thing we (french) will try to sell you should be COSMO VITELLI's 1st album. Don't bother believing the hype, apart from the (old) single Party Day, it's just crap.
Try Black Strobe and (soon) Volga Select on Output Records instead.

Also, I don't know if it'll be released in the uk but SUBURBIA's 1st lp ("we come from...") is out here on the 14th of january and it's just between indie pop and the Pet Shop Boys... and very kyliesque. 4 track taylor-made for single release and the rest ain't bad either.

four weeks pass...
'Under Influence', 'The Sound Of Violence', 'Protection', 'How Do You See Me Now' and the title track are all excellent - better than anything on their first album in my view - recommended for all lovers of wacky French disco-funk...some tracks on this album are indeed naffness tho, including the Ghostface track, 'Hi Water', 'I'm A Woman' and the cacophonous 'On' - a mixed bag but worth a listen definitely

Is Under Influence the really discoey one stevem? Errr if that narrows it down, there was a very unelectronic guitary disco style track on one of those free HMV playlist cds which I thought was good.

V's post is interesting, I like what Cosmo Vitelli stuff I've heard though!

yeh 'Under Influence' is very discoey, same kinda tempo as 'Sound Of Violence' - riding along a Jamiroquai-y rare groove bassline but at house speed - dont let that put you off...mind you, not everyone would like it

did you ever hear the Aloud mix of Modjo's 'What I Mean' - like Galleon and Cassius, another good example of sliced up French aerobic pop house :)

No not heard it, Steve you are going to LOVE Hystereo when they release some records, that's these lads I know here who are on Soma. It's total french house, really good.

Neil Tennant was at a party I went to last night, and we got to talking about the new french electronic bands. I recommended him to check out Discom, Hypo and the labels Clapping Music and Active Suspension, and he took down the address of the record shop where he could find them (Bimbo Tower) on his mobile.

Don't know what he'd make of Suburbia -- he'd probably think they were a tribute band or something.

i'll check those out. i suspect they are less pop more dark/dance i.e. France goes electroclarsh
