How many albums (cd, record, etc.) do you buy per week or per month?

And how many of those are used and how many new?

T. Weiss (Timmy), Sunday, 29 December 2002 23:10 (twenty-three years ago)

When I was I kid, I used to buy one at a time at the store, but now I find myself going on mail-order binges of between 10-15 every couple months.

too many and not enough

Nik (Nik), Sunday, 29 December 2002 23:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Eh, it various. I bought about 8 or so CDs (all used, I think) this week but I went most of the fall without buying more than a few a month. It all depends on how much money I have and how comfortable I am feeding the obsession.

Chris P (Chris P), Sunday, 29 December 2002 23:30 (twenty-three years ago)

About 10-15 a month, and roughly guessed: 50% from used CD shops, 20% from trades, 30% new from mailorder.

Siegbran (eofor), Sunday, 29 December 2002 23:32 (twenty-three years ago)

i try to keep it to around 1 a week, no more, no less. that way I don't get too bored for a lack of new music, and i have to really think about each purchase and savor it. I don't know why some people buy way more than can really give much attention to. seems like a waste of money. buy only what you really want, and listen to it enough to really get a sense of it. but eh, to each their own.

also, i almost never buy used CD's unless it's something i already owned before, is ubiquitous/classic, or is a rare find.

Al (sitcom), Sunday, 29 December 2002 23:34 (twenty-three years ago)

This is currently on the rise since I now work 3 days a week right around the corner from my favorite record emporium..I'm trying to keep it at 1 or 2 a week but lately its been 7 or 8....

brg30 (brg30), Monday, 30 December 2002 02:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Usually about 1 per week or so and sometimes less but I just went on a bit of a binge and bought about 9. Haven't even listened to any of them because I started dubbing old hardcore 7"s to minidisc, strangely enough.

original bgm, Monday, 30 December 2002 04:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, and a good 75% of them are used. I often wait until I can find something used, even if I really do want it. Cheap bastard in me, I suppose.

original bgm, Monday, 30 December 2002 04:45 (twenty-three years ago)

i always make for a £20-30 pick-up once a week

bob zemko (bob), Monday, 30 December 2002 04:59 (twenty-three years ago)

At worst, up to 20 a month. Now I'm just buying 20 blanks a month and downloading.

phil jones (interstar), Monday, 30 December 2002 13:45 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd say I buy 20% used. I probably buy 4 albums a week.

Jonathan Williams (ex machina), Monday, 30 December 2002 13:47 (twenty-three years ago)

I won't tell. It would hurt.

gage o (gage o), Monday, 30 December 2002 13:52 (twenty-three years ago)

The one good thing about my impending employment troubles is that the breakneck pace at which I've acquired music these past couple of years will finally slow down. Some people drink, some exercise, I run up a tab @ Borders. At the rate I was spending moolah, I would've had to sell all my non-musical possessions to keep up, & the only way I'd ever be able to post on the interweb again would be to chisel stone tablets and chuck them @ Al Gore's head.

(Yeah, that's not funny.)

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 30 December 2002 15:44 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd say 5 a month. I'm cutting down my hours at work, so I won't be able2 get too many for the next while.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Monday, 30 December 2002 16:39 (twenty-three years ago)

i mainly buy old 7"s/12" and i´d say about 30-40 a month
i waiting for about over 70 records on the mail right now :weeee!!!!

Jens (brighter), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 00:02 (twenty-three years ago)

I get about 10-20 decent albums free per month; I typically buy between 10-25 more.

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 00:06 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm obsessive when it comes to music as well, I try to acquire as much as possible every month in all categories of music, the only way I can afford my habit is exchanging 1 for 1 CDR's. If anyone is interested in possibly doing the same simply e-mail me.

Wayne, Tuesday, 31 December 2002 03:54 (twenty-three years ago)

It depends. WHen inspired I buy like 3 a week, but lately I got a Television cd from my lil bro for Xmas and it's the only new cd I've aquired in the last 5 or 6 weeks.

Helltime Producto (Pavlik), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 03:55 (twenty-three years ago)

0 to 1 a month, its awful i have too little cds

Chupa-Cabras (vicc13), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 04:07 (twenty-three years ago)

3-8 per week, all used (with only very rare exceptions).

JS Williams (js williams), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 04:51 (twenty-three years ago)

I buy one a week from Ebay. It's the only way to fly! I have a great habit of searching for all CD's £6 and under. THAT way, I only ever get bargains, I see stuff that nobody else wants and I dive in for, and I don't feel guilty for spending too much cash on little bits of plastic.

Johnney B (Johnney B), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 11:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Getting on for 300 new albums last year, more new than used, I think, though other years it would be much the other way.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 3 January 2003 20:47 (twenty-three years ago)

In 2002, I bought just over 200 cds and records, mostly new. So that's more than one cd every other day of the year.
