Came up last night. Needs answering.

Why does nobody on ILX talk about my favourite musical moment of the 90s: Daphne and Celeste being pelted with bottles of piss by Placebo fans at the 1999 Reading festival. Someone wrote in to the NME about this at the time saying how great it was, and the journo responding said "I suppose you think it's funny making 16 year old girls cry by throwing bodily fluids at them?". To be honest, who doesn't?

Dom that is exactly what we were talking about! D&C playing Reading = most punk thing of the 1990s.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 30 December 2002 11:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Punk in the sense that it should never have happened after about 1981?

No, I can see what you mean, in a sense. They must have known they'd get bottled off (they even played the "rock" day, didn't they?), and they still went ahead with it... to quote Ralph Cifaretto, they must have had "balls like an Irish broad's ass". Whether this is any more punk than Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals playing the Big Day Out the same year, though, is questionable.

ummm daphne and celeste are funny....they mean to be funny....they are a parody on pop music. they are very punk, in my opinion.
