MUSIC TRENDS

Look.... I know "music trends" come and go, and most tend todismiss the ones that we're not particularly involved in aesthetically/emotionally/etc...

but.... I'm really psyched about new bands emulating krautrock and Hawkwind and others who make 48 minutes songs that go "wolloooolooollooowllowooowlloowoowoowowowowwoooooo"

Sure, I used to eat peyote and listen to Steve Reich...but I still want others to get friggin razzed!

So am I just a chump to be excited?

you're not a chump but you need to tell me which bands you're talking about

I've been wondering, are Circle any good? I've heard a bit but the Rob Halford vocals freaked me out. Are the vox always this, uhhh... enthusiastic?

The Circle live album that Squealer is rereleasing next year is amazing. Vox are very un-Halford, more like '70s b-horror flicks.

The Kinski record is a major letdown. Not Hawkwind, but Soundgarden!

The Pink Floyd sound will hit it big again, mainly in the form of Secret Machines.

Which Pink Floyd sound is that, Yanc3y? The trippy Syd Barrett sound E6 co-opted and smothered in sugar? The doom-laden orchestral clausterphobia Radiohead nails more often than not? Or the crappy bits where Roger Waters mewls and seethes like a bitter tone-deaf brick?

Meddle-era PF. Go to www.acefu.com and listen to the Machines song they have posted. It's my fave single of the year.

I used to love Oneida. (I was at the show that was recorded for the Bulb live Oneida LP.) Then they lost their frontman, and the next time I saw them I thought they sucked. Perhaps they have improved since then, I dunno.

Circle are great but I think liking them requires liking the vocals. Theya ren't all over their music but its enough to be distracting. But personallly I think the vocals are great. Though I saw Kinski and they didn't seem that interesting - but this was at Terrastock between Acid Mothers Temple and The Spacious Mind so they were onto a loser.

Thanks for the Circle info you two. I'm going to have to give them a more in-depth listen, as I mainly just listened to a few seconds, heard the vocals, then ran away in terror. Maybe I just wasn't expecting the metal god vocals or somethin'. Will definitely check out the live album.

eighteen years pass...

Bands are uncool and going extinct, says dude from Maroon 5:

You’re underselling that article by leading with that old quote… it’s actually a pretty interesting/convincing piece.

Just taking my cue from the Graun.

adam levine's band is disappearing for several reasons, one is because the bassist was credibly accused of sex abuse
