Please discuss T'Pau.

For at least one song, they are untouchably brilliant. (Due to video confusion as a youngster, I thought they were fronted by identical twins.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 19:43 (twenty-three years ago)

SEX TALK....INTIMATE STRANGERS!

sorry...i can remember all their crap obscurer hits as well :(

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 19:54 (twenty-three years ago)

I just fuckin' love the way Butthead said their name.

"hey beavis, her name is...t'PAW"

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 20:05 (twenty-three years ago)

it's funny to see a thread about them. they've been on my mind a lot recently... a newish radio station i listen to has taken to playing "china in your hand" on a weekly basis. and recently i was thumbing through old vinyl in a second hand bookstore, and i saw one of their albums, had a good laugh and felt old. plus i think they are touring england.

cecilia, Tuesday, 31 December 2002 20:43 (twenty-three years ago)

hotter than spock

ron (ron), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 22:16 (twenty-three years ago)

It's Celtic for "salon fresh."

maria b (maria b), Wednesday, 1 January 2003 01:24 (twenty-three years ago)

don't push too hard your dreams of china in your hand.

Profound.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 1 January 2003 20:15 (twenty-three years ago)

oi! i'd always thought the lyrics went: "don't push too hard, your dreams ARE china in your hand". oh well. happy new year, everyone.

cecilia, Wednesday, 1 January 2003 21:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh I probably misheeard!!!

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 1 January 2003 22:16 (twenty-three years ago)

or maybe *i* did. i always seem to do that.

cecilia, Thursday, 2 January 2003 01:38 (twenty-three years ago)

i like heart and soul. she had sexy hair

di smith (lucylurex), Thursday, 2 January 2003 08:00 (twenty-three years ago)

There's this guy in the Auckland Trade & Exchange who is always trying to sell some limited edition T'Pau release for something in the region of $NZ40. T'Pau were produced by Roy Thomas Baker at one stage, which is often a good thing.

Damian (Damian), Thursday, 2 January 2003 12:45 (twenty-three years ago)

"T-POW! That's how I smash the china in your hand" stands at the greatest rap lyric of last year.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 2 January 2003 13:53 (twenty-three years ago)

haha who said that? if i had to guess, i'd say talib, he's always digging a little too deep for the metaphors

ron (ron), Thursday, 2 January 2003 16:08 (twenty-three years ago)

I like them, a lot in parts, less in others.

the pinefox, Thursday, 2 January 2003 16:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Oddly, when anthony and I were in the Junque Shop on Whyte Ave in Edmonton, I ran across the T'Pau album and thought briefly about buying it. I did not, because I am stupid (and because I wasn't sure it would fit into my luggage). Woe!

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 2 January 2003 16:40 (twenty-three years ago)

"Heart and Soul" = the second great UK white rap crossover single in America. Um, sort of. (The first being "West End Girls," of course.)

China In Your Hand seems fantastic in my head right now

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 31 January 2004 01:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I was listening to T'Pau when I revived the thread. It was part of a playlist that included "I Luv U" and "Chop Suey!" Cue aggro 80s flashback.

We need to revive this. T'Pau were ace, and China in Your Hand is my favourite power ballad of all time. And the video showed scantily clad Carol Decker sitting cross legged on the floor while her house fell down, so that's another reason it's so good!!!

JTS, Thursday, 26 August 2004 14:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyone heard the album "Red"? Does it compare much with the other stuff?

JTS, Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I only know/remember Heart & Soul - thought it was great at the time.

I have no recollection of this China song, did it get played in the US at all?

H (Heruy), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned - What about Blondie's "Rapture"??

Somehow, I'd never heard the Rage album (nor any of its singles) before last night. I guess there was a reason as, compared to Bridge of Spies and The Promise, it's pretty rotten.

I think I'm going to revive this thread every time I play "Heart and Soul"

I never knew how to pronounce this band's name. It was "TA POW," I think.

Daniel, Esq., Monday, 12 October 2009 16:03 (sixteen years ago)

That's how I always said it.

I'm amazed that this album was a huge Brit hit.

Dexy's Midnight Runners/Kevin Rowland were also huge Brit hits so this honestly doesn't surprise me.

Lives on my road, she does. Looking pretty milfy.

lol I almost revived this thread too: The woman from T'Pau lives on my road

Can't help thinking that it would be pretty neat if the lead singer of T'Pau teamed up with Frank Black for an industrial project.

For you, maybe. That sounds like the worst idea I've heard about anything in a while.

Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 5 May 2016 19:56 (ten years ago)

They could call themselves Black & Decker.

But... could you imagine a formation in your lemonade? Ho! (Turrican), Thursday, 5 May 2016 20:06 (ten years ago)

C'mon, it would rule!

Couldn't be worse than the Indie Cindy EP though.

Something in the moonlight catches my eye
The shadow of a lover goes dancing by
Looking for a little bit of love to grow, so
Give me love, give me heart and soul
You never let me cross to the other side now
I'm tied to the hope that you will somehow
Hard on the heels of something more
But I lost your love, heart and soul
The tear in my heart as you walk on by
