amazon.co.uk or any top shopping site should list them

I don't think they are available online anywhere - this is what I always tell everyone anyway.

BUT MAYBE THAT WILL CHANGE NOW!!!

Steve - amazon.co.uk wont list the early ones, though?

otherwise, use google to search the web.

anyone knows where to find the tracklisting for
SHINE compilations and VOLUME compilations ?

CDDB seems incomplete and doesnt always give artist names - also some are just plain wrong (The Verve on NOW 6???). The official site gives up before Now 41 and just lists the best-of-year ones instead, uselessly.

So far no joy...the earliest one listed on amazon.co.uk is from 1992, the official sites have a very limited retrospective, and FreeDB is damn confusing, especially with the inclusion of the recent US additions. So anyway I should be aquiring the whole NOW.. series sometime in the near future(I would`ve liked a good look at all the tracklistings beforehand, but there you go). Once I get em shall I post the tracklistings here for your perusal?

YES!

The US started their own series with same title not long ago, hence the confusion?

zebedee, Friday, 10 January 2003 14:52 (twenty-three years ago)

No, much too early for that. It's Now 36 or something I'd guess.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 10 January 2003 14:55 (twenty-three years ago)

i could maybe do tracklistings for Now 5 and Now 8...i have them on tape somewhere, altho the chances of finding the inlays is negligible!

stevem (blueski), Friday, 10 January 2003 15:01 (twenty-three years ago)

starry has Now 1, my sister has Now 3

I've got all of them but I'll have to look them up. Most of them are on vinyl and therefore in the garage.

Also the WEA/CBS Hits series (10 volumes) need to be taken into account, as they cover hits which don't appear in the Now series (i.e. it was WEA/CBS' attempt to compete with Virgin/EMI). And of course there are ppl like Madonna, Jacko etc. who stalwartly refuse to lease any of their tracks to Now, or indeed any, compilations.

you should be able to make out the tracklistings as the very clever person who created that page has scanned that back cover of the cassettes...

this only took me 2 minutes of Google searching! i love you internet...

haha half of ILM now has their head on their right shoulder

zebedee, Friday, 10 January 2003 15:14 (twenty-three years ago)

hahaha!

stevem (blueski), Friday, 10 January 2003 15:15 (twenty-three years ago)

did you notice that on most of these releases they stuck all the cool club/dance hits on one side...its like 'the dance tent' at a big Now Thats What I Call Music festival, heh heh

stevem (blueski), Friday, 10 January 2003 15:17 (twenty-three years ago)

gah, these are SO worth owning - go get em Fran!

stevem (blueski), Friday, 10 January 2003 15:18 (twenty-three years ago)

They still do this Steve - check any jukebox. Taking you on a musical journey innit. They always come a bit unstuck when they have to put Eva Cassidy or Gordon Haskell or someone on though, and Scooter sticks out a bit on the most recent.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 10 January 2003 15:19 (twenty-three years ago)

ah but its different when its on CD...did they actually release the last Now compilation on cassette? erm, does anything come out on cassette now?

stevem (blueski), Friday, 10 January 2003 15:35 (twenty-three years ago)

The US started their own series with same title not long ago, hence the confusion?

The NOW 6 on CDDB that starts with "Stronger" is the U.S. version.

scott pl. (scott pl.), Friday, 10 January 2003 15:40 (twenty-three years ago)

hehe, could do a good Taking Sides: Now 6 (UK) vs Now 6 (US) maybe...essentially just 2002 vs 1986

stevem (blueski), Friday, 10 January 2003 15:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Now 6 is pretty rank (Hits 3 had all the best ones). Now 7 is pretty awesome, however, even if only for Sly Fox and Nu Shooz - two of the greatest singles of the '80s (and a third in Real Roxanne! "The wabbit's kicked the bucket!" et al. Invade the MVE bargain basement at once!).
