Mollusc in Tyrol

I'm just wondering, honestly, did anyone else just take this as a particularly DENSE Fall track? I found out (through Fallnet etc) I heard it was meant to be some kind of impenetrable "Mark fucks around on his 4-track" track, like "Papal Visit", etc. The more I listen to it the more I think it works fine as a song, albeit a muddily recordded one. Am I alone on this? It was annoying at the time (and I guess still is as this was prompted by my latest listening to this song).

It's off "Seminal Live", last track on the stereo side, sorry. Should have said.

I always thought the name was interesting/cool. But I never listen to that record, because it's -uh - not real good-uh. I think "Dead Beat Descendant" is the only reason I keep that record around...

The stereo side's fine! "Pinball Machine" is as good as any drunken rockabilly cover they/he ever did, suerly. Actually I'm listening to the live side now, and it's pretty good too.

The first time I saw The Fall live a tape of this song played just before they came on. I like it a lot, and Pinball Machine too. The rest of the album isn't great.

My friend Gideon once pointed out to me how good the lyrics to "H.O.W." are, which made me appreciate Seminal Live a lot more.

I always thought the title of "Mollusc in Tyrol" was an oblique reference to a line from "D.R. and Quinch Go Hollywood."

It was only the second Fall album I bought and "Mollusc In Tyrol" was yes particularly hard going for my young ears.

Half-studio half-live albums is never a format that seems to work quite as well as it could (exception of course Slates/A Part of America.. but they weren't originally coupled where they?)

Tom (Groke), Friday, 10 January 2003 15:26 (twenty-three years ago)

No, my copy of Slates is a ten inch.

"I always thought the title of "Mollusc in Tyrol" was an oblique reference to a line from "D.R. and Quinch Go Hollywood." " What's D.R. and Quinch Go Hollywood?

Also...Mollusc in Country is the name of an instrumental song on Country Teasers' Moral Nosebleed etc. comp, songwriting credits to Smith. Anyone know is there a Fall Mollusc in Country or is this version taking liberties? It doesn't sound much like the song on Seminal Live.

"D. R. & Quinch Go Hollywood" = semi-classic comics story, from 2000 AD in the mid-'80s, by Alan Moore & Alan Davis--there's a bit of business involving D.R. ordering shellfish which... oh, I won't spoil it.

Douglas (Douglas), Saturday, 11 January 2003 00:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Ordering fresh shellfish in the mountains, is that the joke? Anyway thanks for the report. I'll look out for this DR and Quinch.

um, also if you listen to i ludicrous' "my favourite records" there's a really good bit where he goes something like "john only likes old fall / i'm going to play him 'mollusc in tyrol' / he says he won't like it, but he will, he will" um, you probably have to hear it.

+ i think "my favourite records" is prob a better song than "mollusc" to be honest which is one of only about 2 or 3 fall songs ever that i find difficult to listen to

What's iludicrous?
