They used a *mutated* cello at a recent Stockhausen concert we were at. The two guys I was with, did not *enjoy* the performance. WUSSIES. heheh Ah well at least I had my dose of Noise for the next month. ;-)

Hardringar (or something like that -- it's the instrument that plays the solo Rohan theme in The Two Towers...)

Sun Ra had a few: space dimension mellophone, neptunian libflecto, ancient egyptian infinity drums, etc...I think the names were stranger than the instruments, though. Usually it was just a brass instrument played with a force-fit woodwind mouthpiece (or vice-versa) or a hollowed out log or something. Pierre Bastien built mechano instruments. I think the oboe is pretty unusual...

The Simeon, played by Simeon of the Silver Apples:

'The Simeon consists of nine audio oscillators and eighty-six manual controls, enabling Simeon to express his musical ideas. The lead and rhythm oscillators are played with the hands, elbows and knees and the bass oscillators are played with the feet.'

Also, I'm surprised no ones mentioned that thing John Spencer invented, you know the one that goes wooooo OOOOOOHHHHHH whhhuuuuuu
