The Rutles are utter genius. I get upset when people compare sub-Beatles bollocks to the Rutles, becuase I LOVE the Rutles. I'll compare the Dukes of Stratosphear or of Montreal to the Rutles as a high compliment. I won't compare Oasis to the Rutles because that is an insult to the Rutles.

kate who was on the rutles tribute album?

"C.H.E.E.S.E.A.N.D.O.N.I.O.N.S.
Oh, no"
was a bit of a classic.

the only reason that i ask is that i was playing cheese and onions this morning and sophie came out and asked me if i was playing oasis. then we listened to cheese and onions again and she laughed and went 'oh christ, anybody can play beatlesque songs - the beatles are so rubbish - john lennon's imagine - it's just a rutles song with rubbish 'woe is me' lyrics...'

bahahah.

Hey I was boosting this on the tribute albums thread.

Big stars are obviously Galaxie 500 (Cheese and Onions) and Shonen Knife (Goosestep Mama) but all Rutles is good stuff. I;ve also heard the I must be In Love song done by several bands (Teenage Fanclub and the somewhat less famous Dublin band Hey Paulette).

The thing that pissed me off about the first release of the rutles LP is that "Get up and Go" was not on it. But it's on the CD...

I didn't like Archaeology nearly as much as the original. And I didn't think Rutles Highway Revisited was all that great either, although I own both the LP and the CD...

Yay Rutles! Boo Eric Idle for screwing over Neil Innes eight ways to Sunday! Tribute album's good fun.
