Pat Boone and his son, Moby.

christoff (christoff), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 19:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Mark McGrath (I think that's his name at any rate) and the other members of Sugar Ray.

Dwight Yoakum.

Ian Johnson, Tuesday, 14 January 2003 19:18 (twenty-three years ago)

I will have tons of good things to say about Wierd Al.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 19:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Kevin Shields, admit it

dave q, Tuesday, 14 January 2003 19:29 (twenty-three years ago)

"Polkas on 45" is pure genius ... you need to hear a polka-fied version of "Smoke on the Water" and "Hey Joe"

I pick Michael McDonald.

zaxxon25 (zaxxon25), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 19:52 (twenty-three years ago)

What's wrong with Weird Al? I think he's a cool guy.

mallory bourgeois (painter man), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 19:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Michael MacDonald def. produced the best ever song that was in a film featuring Gregory Hines. (Oh wait, there was "The Inquisition Song" in 'History of the World Pt.1' - sorry MM)

dave q, Tuesday, 14 January 2003 20:01 (twenty-three years ago)

What about "Say You, Say Me" from White Nights? Anyway, I like Dwight Yoakam and especially Michael MacDonald.

Kris (aqueduct), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 20:12 (twenty-three years ago)

mosurock- I hate you, and your parents for creating you.

The guy from Hootie and the Blowfish.

j.lu (j.lu), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 22:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Was anything said when Michael Hutchence died?

christoff (christoff), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 22:19 (twenty-three years ago)

I have to admit, even though I think 'Isn't Anything' and 'Loveless' are great. I'll have trouble thinking up a lot to good things about Kevin Shields. I'll also struggle to say bad things about him though.

fractal (fractal), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 22:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I like Mike Love.

WHY??

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 23:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Dave Gahan. Anyone like Bono. Ian Astbury. Axl Rose?

I'm sure we'll all shed a few for David Lee Roth.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 23:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Ozzy Osborne.
Ol' Dirty Bastard.
Paul McCartney.

mike a (mike a), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 23:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, oops, I missed the "really struggle" part. I meant that the above three will have GOOD things said about them. Sorry.

Although, come to think of it, McCartney's death might unleash the most contentious Beatles argument of all time.

mike a (mike a), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 23:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Yngwie.

, Tuesday, 14 January 2003 23:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Once again, Mike Love needs a MOUTH DIAPER for all the shit that plops out of it.

There's a name for a band: Mouth Diaper!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 23:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Chris Rea (and this is probably about to happen, too)

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 00:04 (twenty-three years ago)

The only one I'm gonna second is Mike Love. Most of this people have some good points (Bono has done more than me charity-wise, Dwight Yoakam was great in "Sling Blade," Pete Townshend says funny stuff in interviews, and most have made a few good songs). But Love's voice has always annoyed me and his stage demeanor sucked from the get-go (always looks mad and self-important). He's like an anti-rock prick or something. Why was he even in the Beach Boys?

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 00:08 (twenty-three years ago)

fred durst. sting.

di smith (lucylurex), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 00:10 (twenty-three years ago)

I will be saying many good things about David Gahan.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 00:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Didn't G.G. Allen do this already?

Dave Beckhouse (Dave Beckhouse), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 00:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Didn't G.G. Allen do this already?

Dave Beckhouse (Dave Beckhouse), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 00:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Didn't G.G. Allen do this already?

Dave Beckhouse (Dave Beckhouse), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 00:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Uh. Sorry. It said the site wasn't responding so I assumed it didn't post.

Dave Beckhouse (Dave Beckhouse), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 00:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Mike Love is an arsehole, but he did make a significant contribution to some great records, not least 'Good Vibrations'.

Bono may or may not be a prat but he has made a difference on the issue of third world debt. Which means he's changed more people's lives more significantly than 99.9% of rock stars.

James Ball (James Ball), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 09:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Pete Cetera
Kelly Jones
Mark Knopfler
David Gray

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 09:51 (twenty-three years ago)

'Pete Cetera' - CTA!!!

dave q, Wednesday, 15 January 2003 10:06 (twenty-three years ago)

i would be sad if pete cetera died.

di smith (lucylurex), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 10:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Phil Collins.

JS Williams (js williams), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 10:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Re Cetera - hopefully they'd play "Where Do We Go From Here" (from Chi II) on the radio tributes, instead of some of his unfortunately better-known recent things

dave q, Wednesday, 15 January 2003 10:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Phil Collins!! Come on! What about Eno's 'Before & After Science'!?

dave q, Wednesday, 15 January 2003 10:36 (twenty-three years ago)

i like "home by the sea". there i said it.

di smith (lucylurex), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 10:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Sean Lennon.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 10:39 (twenty-three years ago)

stewart- bryan adams' 'write to you' is a great pop song.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 12:09 (twenty-three years ago)

If you mean "RUN to you" Julio, actually I think it's....

Well, let's just say I don't agree, shall we?

As I said before, it'd be a boring board if we all liked exactly the same things.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 12:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Bono may or may not be a prat but he has made a difference on the issue of third world debt. Which means he's changed more people's lives more significantly than 99.9% of rock stars.

don't know if this is true but i heard that "artists" are exempt from paying tax in Ireland. So U2 don't. He might make a show of "third world debt" but he obviously couldn't give a toss about the people of Ireland.

gaz (gaz), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 21:48 (twenty-three years ago)

R. Kelly

"Down Low" is one of the best singles of the 90s. And certainly one of the best videos.

Colin Beckett (Colin Beckett), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 21:53 (twenty-three years ago)

"'Down Low' is one of the best singles of the 90s. And certainly one of the best videos."

Oh do please give me a break.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 22:53 (twenty-three years ago)

R. Kelly...at the very least, he fuckin' meant every word...even if he only sang about fuckin' you and how great he is. and the loot!

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 22:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Even before the whole underage sex scandal business, I'd long since made up my mind about Mr.Kelly. I mean, seriously....regardless of your musical taste and dispostion, how can you honestly support someone who sings something as utterly asinine as "Feelin' on Yo Booty" in so cloyingly an earnest manner? The man is a complete clown.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 23:02 (twenty-three years ago)

"I don't see nothin' wro-ong, with a little bump-n-grind"

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 23:30 (twenty-three years ago)

R. Kelly...at the very least, he fuckin' meant every word...even if he only sang about fuckin' you and how great he is. and the loot!

oh no!!! authenticity! oh no!!!!

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Thursday, 16 January 2003 00:32 (twenty-three years ago)

The lyrical lunacy is a big part of the R. Kelly appeal. He'd be just another crooner if he wasn't saying crazy shit like "You remind me of my jeep/I wanna ride it[...]Girl you look just like my cars/I wanna wax it" and didn't have songs like "I Like The Crotch On You".

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 16 January 2003 00:39 (twenty-three years ago)

What the hell's wrong with Dwight Yoakam??

My name is Kenny (My name is Kenny), Thursday, 16 January 2003 00:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Mark H has been picked up for his hideous slur on Mark Knopfler already by my good self, no need for any of you to follow suit.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 16 January 2003 01:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Joe Washbourne

Charlie (Charlie), Thursday, 16 January 2003 02:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Dude, Feelin On Yo' Booty is one of my favorite songs of his! Made my top ten list last year. Marvin Gaye, even if he had rock stupid lyrics, would still be Marvin Gaye. And the lines "players wanna play, ballers wanna ball, rollers wanna roll" always feel like wisdom to me, coming from that beautiful voice.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 16 January 2003 02:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Dude, Feelin On Yo' Booty is one of my favorite songs of his!

Another one of those ones that slipped by me. I'm amused by the title, though.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 16 January 2003 03:27 (twenty-three years ago)

The way he repeats "booty" at the end of the song was easily the most memorable closer of the year.

Most memorable opening line? Possibly Linkin Park's "It starts with one...."

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 16 January 2003 03:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Hm. Which song was that one? I only know a Linkin Park chorus. Good chorus, though.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 16 January 2003 03:44 (twenty-three years ago)

In The End....it doesn't really matter. Depeche Mode meets Vanilla Ice and Alice Cooper in rap-rock heaven.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 16 January 2003 03:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Figured it was that one. Never heard the start of the song, see. The MC didn't do much for me, I have to say.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 16 January 2003 03:49 (twenty-three years ago)

"don't know if this is true but i heard that "artists" are exempt from paying tax in Ireland"

I don't know of that's true either but it I strongly suspect that this is a misunderstanding which stems from the fact that a lot of UK musicians have taken temporary residence in Eire at one time or another in order to and exploit some sort of loophole in the UK Income Tax residency rules and take advantage of Eire's more favourable tax regime.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Thursday, 16 January 2003 09:40 (twenty-three years ago)

"My mother's a bit embarrassed to admit to eating squirrel brains, but back home in Kentucky it's a real delicacy" - Dwight Yoakam

dave q, Thursday, 16 January 2003 11:19 (twenty-three years ago)

That hairy bloke from Toploader, obviously.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 16 January 2003 11:49 (twenty-three years ago)

six years pass...

wow, first post soooooo wrong

velko, Saturday, 5 September 2009 04:00 (sixteen years ago)

that was my first thought when I opened this thread. everything I've read on him suggests that he's one of the nicest people in the music industry. I don't listen to his music that often these days, but it was a huge part of my childhood. UHF is classic and his tv show was great.

iatee, Saturday, 5 September 2009 04:08 (sixteen years ago)

i am so overjoyed every time i see weird al on tv. he is such a beacon of hope & sunlight in our dark world tbh

ian, Saturday, 5 September 2009 04:12 (sixteen years ago)

OTM dudes. I'll be too busy crying like a baby to post on threads the day Weird Al dies.
