Inspired by thoughts about The Blueprint 2.

In the old days this meant triple vinyl, now it means double CD. What's the best extreme-length pop or rock record ever? How much filler is on it?

Sadinista! is my favourite Clash album. Not their *best* album, but my favourite. Second 69 Love Songs, too.

To be difficult, Blueprint 2 is in fact a quadruple LP (with a couple of tracks not on the CDs).

Anyway, are you limiting this to albums exclusively recorded as multi-disc sets? You know, like tossing a bunch of rareties/outtakes/etc. together like the new Windy & Carl collection doesn't qualify (not that I would qualify it, I haven't heard it, I'm just seeing the boundaries).

I'd have to go with Sandanista, too. My first "punk" album (same as Kurt Cobain's).

I have only the first disc of 69 Love Songs and I think it's so-so. Does it get better?

The first few songs on the first disc are as good as it gets fer 69 Love Songs I think, but volume two is more consistently enjoyable.

Kurt Cobain hated Sadinista!" and prefered Nevermind The Bollocks..., which just goes to show what a fule he was.

I'm less interested in "serious" music composition like the Glass, more in pop & rock & trying to push the boundries there...also, forget the retrospectives & box sets, new material only here (which means 69 LS counts, of course.)

Agreed on Sixty Nine Love Songs.

What about Unwound, Leaves Turn Inside You? It's double CD, but I don't think it's 120 minutes.. More like 95 or so, I think. I can't think of many albums that stretch this long; Sandinista is so-so. Too much filler to wade through. A single LP of the best songs on it would be pretty amaxing, though.

Zappa's "Lather" (should be an umlaut there) is astounding. Originally conceived as a four-album set, the tracks got reformatted and scattered over at least five different FZ releases after "the record company" refused to release the set. The reconstituted "Lather" on CD, even without the bonus tracks, is well over 120m, and, of course, there is some filler. But a lot of that filler, to me at least, stems from hearing tracks out of their "original" contexts ("Zappa in New York", "Sheik Yerbouti") and in a more demo-y form (that is, not overdubbed to the suburbs and back). "The Adventures of Greggery Peccary" alone is worth the price.

You may proceed to throw wadded up balls of shrink-wrap from "69 Love Songs" at me.

I think it's great. It has looser live feeling, and they give the songs plenty of time to build and develop. It's a little more trance-y than the studio album I have ("Imago") and more organic. The recording is excellent. Great guitar-violin interplay. It was one of my favorite albums of 2002.

Corrupted - Llenandose de Gusanos

I could lose a track here and there on the first two (the Corrupted one is two tracks total!) but they all seem to warrant their length. But aside from the Aphex one, can't say I listen to them all that often.

Phish's Junta clocks in at a couple minutes over 2 hours. The original self-released cassette (in 1989, I think) ran a little under 90 minutes; the Elektra CD (released in 1992) added about 35 minutes worth of live material to the end.
