odd juxtapositions you typically listen to

The thread about June Tabor persuaded me to pull out a CD I'd burned with some of her stuff.

I got into a wave of listening to women folk singers when I was reading about the Current 93 / Shirley Collins connection. So, I currently file my tracks by women folk singers with other "Apocalyptic Folk". Hence June is sharing a CD with miscellaneous Psychic TV / Jack the Tab.

For me now, the two soundworlds are compatible and intertwined. June and Genesis P are a fantastic pairing of voices ... both dour, northern, flat and spooky.

So what other weird pairings or juxtapositions have become sythesized into stylistic unities in your collections / minds?

These two would definitely clash for me. There's very little Genesis P-Orridge that I can put up with anymore (some of the studio tracks, maybe, plus his oddly distinctive work on "Live at thee Circus.") He's not really spooky for me any more, mostly just kind of silly. June Tabor I wouldn't mind hearing more of. I saw her live once a long time ago.

That was not the question.

My listening has narrowed somewhat in recent years, so I don't have as many weird juxtapositions. I do find that I can tend to segue from just about anything else to Sun Ra, so if I want to move from salsa to Arabic music, or vice versa, I can stick him in the middle.

so if I want to move from salsa to Arabic music, or vice versa, I can stick him in the middle.

You can also do it with Algerian / French band : Gnawa Diffusion who put little salsa breaks into their arabic / reggae mix.
