Who is the oldest ILM poster? Who is the youngest? What music do both these people share an interest in?

Famous Athlete, Thursday, 16 January 2003 00:48 (twenty-three years ago)

I just turned 15 a month ago, but I doubt anyone here shares my interests.

Curtis Stephens, Thursday, 16 January 2003 01:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Kogan is possibly the oldest semi-regular.

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 16 January 2003 01:12 (twenty-three years ago)

15 eh?

so what's good then?

spread it around for us old farts,
m.

msp, Thursday, 16 January 2003 01:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Curtis -- if you don't say anything about your likes or dislikes, it's hard to tell whether others would share them

my daughter is fifteen, and, maybe a bit funnily, i've lately found that i like slightly more some of her pop faves than i do (most of) my eighteen-year-old son's rock picks
...hope this didn't sound discouraging

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Thursday, 16 January 2003 01:58 (twenty-three years ago)

the Smashing Pumpkins, Blue Man Group, Moby (his early Instinct stuff and "Play," specifically.. rest is mostly shite), Jandek, Aphex Twin, Daniel Johnston... those are some of the main ones

Curtis Stephens, Thursday, 16 January 2003 02:09 (twenty-three years ago)

thanks, Curtis
some of those you named, i happen to like too, to a greater or lesser degree (i've never heard Blue Man Group, tho', and am not so keen on Pumpkins any more...etc) -- but, hey i'm not quite the eldest ilm'er here, so

-- now if Farnk Kogan dropped in, it'd be interesting to see what is or isn't the common ground -- between the so-far-known-as-the-youngest and the thus-far-believed-to-be-the-eldest
(Frank's in the Rocky Mountain Time Zone, right - he should be up and about anyway)

((i'm a relatively new guy round these parts, just been here a month or so, BUT i've seen an old 'introduce yourself' thread where, methinks, there was also a gentlemen in his fifties ...from ...Britain? no?))

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Thursday, 16 January 2003 02:47 (twenty-three years ago)

You just listen to Jandek to get the honeys.

Teenagers!

nebbesh (nebbesh), Thursday, 16 January 2003 02:47 (twenty-three years ago)

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Thursday, 16 January 2003 02:50 (twenty-three years ago)

last time i saw the smashing pumpkins live it was on my 17th birthday... and that was over 10 years ago...

jandek eh? he on TRL yet?

keep it up gee,
m.

msp, Thursday, 16 January 2003 04:27 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm listening to the Pumpkins right now. (Not that I'm the youngest or oldest but just that I share your taste for them.)

Livvie, Thursday, 16 January 2003 09:35 (twenty-three years ago)

*sigh* that's the same reply i would have made when i was 14 (except obv for the last three as they didn't exist when i was 14).

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 16 January 2003 09:38 (twenty-three years ago)

What's the average age on ILM then? I suspect I'm a little older than the average (would late 20s be a realistic guess?) at 34, but I'm pleased there are a few older (and wiser) gits than me around.

James Ball (James Ball), Thursday, 16 January 2003 11:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 16 January 2003 12:15 (twenty-three years ago)

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 16 January 2003 18:47 (twenty-three years ago)

im 16 and i enjoy bands that scream a lot, beats from the street, and breaks that fall apart.

juiceboxxx, Thursday, 16 January 2003 21:11 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm 43 - I think Frank is older than me, but he is rarely on ILX. I may well be the oldest regular ILXer, but I'm not on ILM a great deal.

The youngest here, Livvie, listed: the Stooges, Patti Smith Group, Television, Sonic Youth and Joy Division. I like all of them a lot, and love the Stooges. I even saw Joy Division live! But this feels like cheating, somehow, in that these are all bands that have been around for ages. The only one of Curtis's picks I really like is the Aphex Twin. Most of what I buy these days is drum & bass, hip hop, R&B and techno, but I still love lots of old soul, punk, pop, reggae, rock, country, disco and loads of other things.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 16 January 2003 21:35 (twenty-three years ago)

sometimes i'm far too old too, and then my medication kicks in.

its funny the youngest posters are listening to older music. I think i did this too at that age.

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 16 January 2003 22:20 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm 25 and have the tastes of an 80-year-old, some days.

Amateurist (amateurist), Thursday, 16 January 2003 22:28 (twenty-three years ago)

I listen to old music too - I mean Robert Johnson or Fats Waller or Jelly Roll Morton were at their peaks decades before even I was born! It just doesn't surprise people when old people listen to even older music.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 16 January 2003 22:32 (twenty-three years ago)

its starting to scare me that at 65 i could still be listening to kids music. ah well..i have classical music to look forward to. and babs streisand. thats scarier.

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 16 January 2003 22:36 (twenty-three years ago)

The album that I've played most in the last six months was by Daphne & Celeste. I haven't grasped quite why I'm supposed to be listening to Phil Collins or Mantovani or something by now, but I'm not inclined to start.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 16 January 2003 23:03 (twenty-three years ago)

i would've hated the 70's equivalent of Daphne & Celeste at 12 though. I would've liked something from the, er, canon.

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 16 January 2003 23:10 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm 40 and i don't like anything

duane, Thursday, 16 January 2003 23:44 (twenty-three years ago)

I think the ILM generation gap is filled with creamy lemon pudding. Then again, I'm a freak.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 17 January 2003 00:02 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm 35, which might explain by wide-eyed, zealous devotion to all things Killing Joke.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 17 January 2003 00:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Just turned eighteen. My top ten favourite performers of all time as proven by science (i.e. I have a list of fav songs and the ones that have the most songs on that list get into this top ten) are The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Presley, Elvis Costello, The Rolling Stones, The Ramones, R.E.M., The Clash and Blur, tho I don't think I'd list these if someone asked me my fav bands- I'd probably list The Beatles and Springsteen, maybe The Smiths, then my current faves, meaning The Streets, Eminem, Tom Waits, Ballboy, Cam'ron and Semisonic.

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Friday, 17 January 2003 00:23 (twenty-three years ago)

i like all the things livvie likes!! therefore by science dad-rock fills the ilm generation gap!!

Ha ha its not filling any generation gaps that I have problems with, its more finding people from my generation that like stuff that I like. So far I don't know any.

Oh yeah, herein lies the problem - although I obviously like more music than just five bands I don't really like very much current that hasn't been around since a long time ago. Most of what I'm listening to at the moment is I guess from the 1970s CBGB scene.

I think the ILM generation gap is filled with creamy lemon pudding. Then again, I'm a freak.

I like this idea a lot.

Livvie, Friday, 17 January 2003 10:00 (twenty-three years ago)
