Great Blind Musicians

Art Tatum YEAH! But of course also: Stevie Wonder, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Donato Da Firenze (Italian Ars Nova composer), heaps of the great Koto masters, Ray Charles. Any more? But what I REALLY want to know is: has anyone ever poked out there own eyes in order to become a better musician? I mean I KNOW it's romanticising the whole thing, but I'd do that in a second if I had the balls. The only thing stopping me is I'm worried I'll instantly have a HORRIBLE EPIPHANY in which I realise I'm the least talented musician who ever walked the earth. Any thoughts?

I sold one of my eyes to the devil in exchange for extensive US college radio play.

I think Pat is a closet science-fiction fan who got the idea from Orson Scott Card's "Unaccompanied Sonata". Five pounds please!

Marcus Roberts. George Shearing. How come it's always the piano players? Why aren't there any blind drummers (besides Stevie Wonder)? I know I can play the drums with my eyes closed.

Maybe all the blind guys pick piano because it's the only instrument they won't have to drive around and haul themselves.
