What's so special about Apparat Organ Quartet?

Seems to be a lot of buzz around this (soon to be) latest Icelandic export. I think they're of interest, but is Apparat deserving of such accolades or simply guilty by association -- and when will all the cool people start moving to Reykjavik? ¥

Wait, does this have anything to do with last night's Frontline? Their profile of the "sound of the future" in Iceland basically centered on the correspondent following Apparat around, which was really unfortunate because Apparat sounded like pretty run-of-mill TRS-90 or Add N to X analogue-rock stuff.

In a weird move he demonstrated the scene's "avant garde" qualities by going to a small show where a guy was doing laptop noise-drone stuff: "The crowd listened attentively," he said, "but I couldn't take more than two minutes of it." Then they went back to see Apparat.

hehe i saw that last night with my dad. i had to answer all of his questions about the coolness of the scene or whatever. apparat sounded enjoyable but not that fresh. the clips of sigur ros seemed more exciting.

Yessiree. I figured the vast majority of folks wouldn't have seen the segment, so i just omitted it altogether. ---Aren't those Icelanders cerebral little vulcan/glaci - ologists, or what? I especially liked the one guy playing church hymnals for the old folks. So, you think this hotbed will get some fresh social transplants? -- Oh, Aaron, you heard about an HBO show that, among other things, covers live performance? I haven't seen it, but i heard they a pretty impressive Sigur show. ¥

Ha, I didn't even mean that "TRS-90" thing, it was a typo, but this is how I will describe Apparat for the rest of my life!

i will look out for the sigur show on hbo. they are playing here in dc in march for $30. i had thought that i should probably see them play before making up my mind, but, considering the price of the show, it would be cheaper to buy one of their discs! (yes i know i am very late in making up my mind about them, considering the average time for many ilxors to decide on music is one week!) ;-)
