Please. I really need to hear this now. Anything, any reasons, any grounds.

whiny style-apes marketed at office drones

the musical equivalent of American Beauty

gygax!, Friday, 17 January 2003 20:10 (twenty-three years ago)

They are incredibly boring in their own documentary film.

paul cox (paul cox), Friday, 17 January 2003 20:30 (twenty-three years ago)

there have many threads on radiohead. go there! use the search!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 17 January 2003 20:32 (twenty-three years ago)

They're all really talented and getting richer by the minute.

chris sallis, Friday, 17 January 2003 20:41 (twenty-three years ago)

"the musical equivalent of American Beauty "

GENIUS! The perfect description.

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 17 January 2003 20:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Especially since it can be interpreted as positive or negative.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 17 January 2003 20:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Useless comment, since I lurve Radiohead and couldn't give a fig either way about American Beauty. I must retailor it. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 17 January 2003 21:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Radiohead are the greatest band on the planet (although their last couple of albums haven't shown that as much) and they will go down in history with the Beatles, Nirvana, etc. as a band that started a new movement in music.

matthew noah, Friday, 17 January 2003 21:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Their singer has a fucked-up eye.

Famous Athlete, Friday, 17 January 2003 21:19 (twenty-three years ago)

BURN.

gazuga (gazuga), Friday, 17 January 2003 21:41 (twenty-three years ago)

they were really mean to Scott Teneman

stevem (blueski), Friday, 17 January 2003 21:45 (twenty-three years ago)

whiny style-apes marketed at office drones

Hahahahaha, gygax! is leading the non-office-drone office drone REVOLUTION!

(p.s. dude our stock is up today!)

hstencil, Friday, 17 January 2003 21:46 (twenty-three years ago)

_Kid A_ and _Amnesiac_ are miles better than the other three albums (and I think _OK Computer_ is brilliant and _The Bends_ is excellent).

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 17 January 2003 21:46 (twenty-three years ago)

are there instrumental versions of their albums? I suspect they might actually be the best band ever, but I can't stand the vox.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 17 January 2003 22:01 (twenty-three years ago)

It's no secret that I like Radiohead a lot, but I don't hear them as having started any "movements" -- there are a couple of bands who ape Thom's crooning style but short of that they don't so much blaze trails as walk them more deftly than most

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Friday, 17 January 2003 22:09 (twenty-three years ago)

i think radiohead make nice pop songs and expert chill-out music! hurrah!

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Friday, 17 January 2003 23:36 (twenty-three years ago)

It feels to me like they cease to exist, something I used to talk about or listen to aaaages ago but now just don't really understand or care about.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 17 January 2003 23:37 (twenty-three years ago)

scrap what i just said, it makes little/no sense. let me say instead that i find them superior to both gary numan AND the replacements...

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Friday, 17 January 2003 23:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Another promising young mind lost to "party drugs" and, um, dancing.

Sean (Sean), Friday, 17 January 2003 23:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Darn, my post was meant to follow Ronan's... oh well, it's just as funny this way. Or not.

Sean (Sean), Friday, 17 January 2003 23:42 (twenty-three years ago)

But would you find them superior to Gary Numan leading the Replacements?

"All I'm ever losing is...a little mascara!"
"The message is very clear/I am your answering machine"
"Here Comes A Technical"

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 17 January 2003 23:44 (twenty-three years ago)

the unfailingly charming thom yorke remains my favourite earth human...no wait, he's an obnoxious arse!

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Friday, 17 January 2003 23:55 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm sure they're all cockfarmers but they do what they do better than anyone else.

Tom (Groke), Saturday, 18 January 2003 00:32 (twenty-three years ago)

In a specific "making big thoughtful indie records" sense not a broad "making records" sense btw.

Tom (Groke), Saturday, 18 January 2003 00:34 (twenty-three years ago)

the aceness of the 'Kid A' blipverts made me envy them (but Shynola more)

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 18 January 2003 01:15 (twenty-three years ago)

But would you find them superior to Gary Numan leading the Replacements?

NOTHING IS SUPERIOR TO THAT.

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Saturday, 18 January 2003 01:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Their website is beyond abysmal.

Their liner notes define "pretentious."

And if you ever see anybody with one of those crazy Radiohead tshirts on, please laugh in their face. NOT COOL AT ALL NOT EVEN A LITTLE BIT.

Evan (Evan), Saturday, 18 January 2003 01:38 (twenty-three years ago)

actually, I'd argue DJ Shadow's liner notes define pretentious.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 18 January 2003 01:39 (twenty-three years ago)

even though i like both, the radiohead and american beauty comparison is spot on...

robin (robin), Saturday, 18 January 2003 01:43 (twenty-three years ago)

I love Radiohead, they're the greatest band ever. See, I love it when English ppl over-achieve because it makes other English ppl SO FUCKING ANGRY

dave q, Saturday, 18 January 2003 10:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Radiohead are the new Pink Floyd ... the last couple of decades of musical experimentation, digested and repackaged for the masses.

phil jones (interstar), Saturday, 18 January 2003 12:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Radiohead lack the personality to be the new Pink Floyd.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 18 January 2003 12:30 (twenty-three years ago)

When the new punks arrive, trust me, they'll all be wearing "I hate Radiohead" T shirts.

phil jones (interstar), Saturday, 18 January 2003 12:36 (twenty-three years ago)

that's all the proof i need. i am tossing all my radiohead cd's on the fire, cos the sum41 fans of the future will scold me if they see them.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Saturday, 18 January 2003 13:19 (twenty-three years ago)

None of their guitar players can play F. They've got the basics down, but the bottom E string buzzes quite a bit. Johnny's the closest.

Lynskey (Lynskey), Saturday, 18 January 2003 14:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Let's get back to this brilliant Numan-fronting-Placemats approach.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 18 January 2003 15:44 (twenty-three years ago)

I saw an old clip of Raiohead performing Creep on the Arsenial Hall show last night. I had forgotten what a pretensious fuck the lead singer was (is).

William R Henderson (Cabin Essence), Saturday, 18 January 2003 15:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Arsenial Hall

I'm trying to imagine Arsene Wenger talking about his posse.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 18 January 2003 16:43 (twenty-three years ago)

they lack the presence of an actual songwriter.

bahtology, Saturday, 18 January 2003 17:54 (twenty-three years ago)
