i am surprised there hasn't been a subject for Best Albums of 2003 yet.

Didn't It Rain was my favourite album of 2002..... though it took several listens before i even liked it

The first two songs off Magnolia have been constant ear-worms since i first heard the album about a week ago..... the album dips in the middle a bit for me, but i suprised myself by liking the blatant country song (complete with guest vocals by someone who sounds like he just walked out of nashville school of country)

Yeah Magnolia sounds nothing like SO of old but unlike most artists that change their style it works very good.

The Lioness is their peak.

Might be, but I wouldn't say he is on a decline.
He is still making high quality music.

two months pass...
I picked this up today. After one listen, it sounds pretty good. Molina is a better singer than some have made him out to be.

The thing I could pick up from the first listen is that it sounds very natural, not a fancy production trick in sight. It is as it was played, which is good step in my book, especially for this kind of music.

I really enjoyed the first S: O song that I heard - it
was on a CMJ sampler disc, "Tigress."
Dark, spare, and moody, with good dynamics and a haunting
melody. Unfortunately, every other song I've heard sounds
virtually identical, down to the chords, with only a few
variations in tempo and instrumentation.

I'm interested in the forthcoming Pyramid... release -- but Magnolia's up there on the list.

fifteen years pass...

This was very prescient
