why is the collage-style drawing or painting of multiple images (like the ringo & eric carr & def lep ones i posted) so popular with rock artists?

is it because a single frozen image is incapable of conveying the excitement that a rock and roller inspires?

or is it to reflect the fan's traditional scrapbook-style mental image of musical artists?
