the bit with the kid talking:
"i got a message for smokie"etc
someone told my friend it was from the film fresh, which i subsequently saw...
the voice does sound exactly like the kid from fresh, but the dialogue wasn't in the film...
anyone know anything about this?

i can't really help u with that question, but it's def from some 70's blaxploitation flick. ethan/je$$ to thread but they've sold out and jumped ship.

i have a question (sorry to hijack yr fred): nas refers to the 'purple tapes' on the last real nigga alive where ghostface rips on bad boy for biting nas's album cover. i know he does this on the intro to shark niggas on cuban linx, but why does nas refer to it as 'the purple tape'? is is some mix tape or summat?

i thought the purple tapes was the title of the pre-released, bootlegged cuban links.

For those still interested, that sample is from "The Education of Sonny Carson."

Also, Cuban Linx was released as a purple cassette. Hence "purple tape."
