Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 13:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 13:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Noooooooo!

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 13:14 (twenty-three years ago)

hmmm...dunno if i'd include bruce springteen in the equation, but you may well have a point...

robin (robin), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 13:16 (twenty-three years ago)

tom waits????

how is pantomime music dadrock?

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 13:17 (twenty-three years ago)

The day my dad cooks up a Phillipino Box Spring Hog I will be very happy.

Lynskey (Lynskey), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 14:31 (twenty-three years ago)

well my dad likes tom waits anyway, maybe that's why i buy the arguement

robin (robin), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 14:35 (twenty-three years ago)

although now that i think of it,he doesn't like dadrock,so maybe the theory isn't as watertight as i thought...

robin (robin), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 14:36 (twenty-three years ago)

IF YOU ACCEPT ANY DADAROCK YOU MUST DIE!!!!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 14:38 (twenty-three years ago)

I can't see any similarity between Tom Waits and the others - my dad likes Duke Ellington and Count Basie but that doesn't make them "Dadrock"!

Apart from that, and provided that we're differentiating very clearly between SMALL Faces and Faces (on the basis that SMALL Faces were not "Dadrock") then the short answer to your question is....

NO.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 14:48 (twenty-three years ago)

"IF YOU ACCEPT ANY DADAROCK YOU MUST DIE"

But surely Captain Beefheart's Dadarock, isn't he Julio?

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 14:49 (twenty-three years ago)

''But surely Captain Beefheart's Dadarock, isn't he Julio?''

if only i knew how to spell properly i'd be a 'better' poster.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 14:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Tom Waits is creepy-older-woman-you-slept-with rock. Trust me on this one.

My dad saw Huey Lewis and the News at a casino in Mississippi last weekend. I almost wish I could've been there.

"Tom Waits is creepy-older-woman-you-slept-with rock"

Aaaaah! NOW I know what to tell people when they ask me what sort of music I like!

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 15:07 (twenty-three years ago)

dadrock is fine, as long as you can do that stick-out-your-tongue and hitchhike dance that Homer Simpsons does to Bachman-Turner Overdrive.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 18:59 (twenty-three years ago)

For the record, Waits has LOTS to do with Springsteen- it's those teary ballads. My first Waits album was Mule Variations, I was on a big Springsteen kick at the time, and it fit in perfectly- "Hold On", that song about hoping his pony finds its way back home. Totally everyman Springsteen stylee.

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Thursday, 23 January 2003 00:59 (twenty-three years ago)

a question no-one has ever really answered here, and though it isn't directly on point --

is dad-rock the same thing as butt-rock? and if not, what are the distinctions?

Tad (llamasfur), Thursday, 23 January 2003 01:05 (twenty-three years ago)

also Springsteen covers "Jersey Girl" to the delight of his homestate audience.

butt-rock is jockish older brother music. Like Wayne from Wonder Years. I think.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 23 January 2003 02:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Or Wayne from Wayne's World.

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Thursday, 23 January 2003 02:27 (twenty-three years ago)

also Springsteen covers "Jersey Girl" to the delight of his homestate audience.

not this New Jersey Boy.

Tad (llamasfur), Thursday, 23 January 2003 02:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Does Waits do teary ballads anymore, or is it all just, er, dada.

Sean (Sean), Thursday, 23 January 2003 02:34 (twenty-three years ago)

"Hold On", the song off Mule Variations Daniel Rf brought up fits the ballad bill.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 23 January 2003 02:35 (twenty-three years ago)

As do: "All The World Is Green" (haha, I almost typed "All The World Is Grebt"), "Coney Island Baby", "Fish & Bird", "House Where Nobody Lives", "Pony", "Picture In A Frame", "Take It With Me", "Flower's Grave", "Lost In The Harbour" and "Alice" (nb few of these sound like Springsteen)

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Thursday, 23 January 2003 12:19 (twenty-three years ago)

well i know there are links/similarities between bruce springsteen and tom waits (waits even sings on that live version of jersey girl)
what i meant was that i dunno if i'd include bruce springsteen inside the bracket of "acceptable" dadrock (maybe i would though,i don't know all that much of his stuff),not that there were no links between the two...
i do love waits ballads though,so you never know...

robin (robin), Thursday, 23 January 2003 13:43 (twenty-three years ago)

My mum likes Bruce Springsteen. Is he also mumrock?

James Ball (James Ball), Thursday, 23 January 2003 14:17 (twenty-three years ago)

fuck you paul weller roolz

g (graysonlane), Thursday, 23 January 2003 21:06 (twenty-three years ago)

is the second half of The Blueprint dadrock? why not?

thom west (thom w), Thursday, 23 January 2003 22:39 (twenty-three years ago)

fuck you paul weller roolz
you forgot to add "& ur all gay"

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Friday, 24 January 2003 15:19 (twenty-three years ago)

oh yeah, sorry

g (graysonlane), Friday, 24 January 2003 23:05 (twenty-three years ago)

i think electric light orchestra is dad rock.

although my dad likes sim harpo, and i don't think that is dadock at all.
i think we all have cool dads. tom waits is good, bruce springsteen's lyrics on born to run are like a modern day walt whitman. i like these musicans listed. does that make me a dad?

mallory bourgeois (painter man), Friday, 24 January 2003 23:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, I'm a dad and I like all of The Blueprint so I guess it is dadrock. As for mumrock, my mum likes the first NWA album, and Cassetteboy. Does that make her an anomaly or are NWA mumrock?

richard stacey (analog75), Saturday, 25 January 2003 01:20 (twenty-three years ago)

does neil young = dadrock?

Maria (Maria), Saturday, 25 January 2003 01:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, After The Goldrush and Harvest, definitely.
