Just saw the vid for this and I think it's pretty amazing, and I generally don't care for this stuff too much. Your thoughts on it?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 23 January 2003 15:21 (twenty-three years ago)

This is one of my favorite tracks on her album. The video isn't as great as I wanted it to be, but I still love it. (I also love that she quotes "Funky Fresh Dressed" in the middle for absolutely no reason.)

Alex, you might want to check out this album if you like this song and "Work It".

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 23 January 2003 15:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, it's an awesome video. It has a similar feel to 'Work it" video.

A Nairn (moretap), Thursday, 23 January 2003 15:41 (twenty-three years ago)

What are the lyrics?

jm (jtm), Thursday, 23 January 2003 15:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Might have to, Dan.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 23 January 2003 16:01 (twenty-three years ago)

the little bit they slip in w/ Ms. Jade in the middle sounds nice, what track is that?

Al (sitcom), Friday, 24 January 2003 03:28 (twenty-three years ago)

The video version seems to remove the best parts of the song... feels almost unresolved without the trash-talk at the end.

gazuga (gazuga), Friday, 24 January 2003 04:45 (twenty-three years ago)

That's "Funky Fresh Dressed" and is another kiler track on that album.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 24 January 2003 04:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I LOVE that funky white girl!!! And the AZN girl!!!!!

AND THE HOT TEACHER THAT IS MEANT TO ACT LIKE SHE WOULD ACTUALLY LET LUDA DO HER!!!

Vic (Vic), Friday, 24 January 2003 05:00 (twenty-three years ago)

is this the one with the 'double dutch bus' sample?

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 24 January 2003 05:03 (twenty-three years ago)

`Tis the track that makes me actually love Ludacris, by gosh!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 24 January 2003 05:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Could someone please put me out of my misery and tell me where the chorus is sampled from?

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 24 January 2003 05:30 (twenty-three years ago)

mark p i have this nagging feeling that it's from sesame street (but don't know at all really) - i have half remembered visions of an old musician teaching a child how to scat.

minna (minna), Friday, 24 January 2003 06:29 (twenty-three years ago)

it's frankie smith's "double dutch bus"

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 24 January 2003 06:53 (twenty-three years ago)

hehe the idea of timbaland watching sesame st. was a bit weird

minna (minna), Friday, 24 January 2003 07:12 (twenty-three years ago)

I could totally see Missy and Tim popping up on Sesame Street.

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 24 January 2003 07:17 (twenty-three years ago)

i wish they'd write one of those number or alphabet skits for it, hype williams could direct it

minna (minna), Friday, 24 January 2003 07:29 (twenty-three years ago)

it's frankie smith's "double dutch bus"

my GOD this song is cool. "Wizzaaaaaaat!?"

Dan I. (Dan I.), Friday, 24 January 2003 09:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Now I don't go out my house shorty you just waitin to see
Who im roll up in the club with and report that next week
Just wanna see who I am ******* or sniffin some coke
I know by the time I finish this line ima hear this on the radio

[Ludacris]
Once upon a time in Kyla park
Where they live life fast and they scared of dark
There was a little n*gga by the name of 'cris
Nobody paid him any mind
No one gave a shit
Knowing he could rap
No one lend a hand
So he went about his business
And devised the plan
Made a CD then he hit the block
Fifty thousand sold, seven dollars a pop
Hold the phone, three years later
Steped out the swamp with ten and a half gators
Now all around the world on the microphone
He leaves the booth smellin like Burberry cologne
Still ride the chrome
Got bitches in the kitchen
Never home alone
And hes on the grind
Please let me know if hes on your mind
And respect youll gimmie
Ludacris, I live loud like timmy
Had to clear these rumors
I got a headache and its not a tumor
Get up on my lap get my head tucked tight
Sprayed so I never let the bed bugs bite
Im hard to the core
Core to the right
You drop down turn around pick up hella clip (yaaaa)
echo: yahh!

[Chorus:]
Musi ques
I sews on bews
I pues a twos on que zat
Pue zoo
My kizzer
Pous zigga ay zee
Its all kizza
Its always like
Its all kizza
Its always like
Na zound
Wa zee
Wa zoom zoom zee

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Friday, 24 January 2003 09:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah Ludacris' cameo on "One Minute Man" might be topped by his contribution here.

Vic (Vic), Friday, 24 January 2003 11:43 (twenty-three years ago)

THANK YOU JAMES BLOUNT

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 24 January 2003 14:49 (twenty-three years ago)

I love when Ludacris does Stuart Scott (referring to Tim Hardaway) doing Timmy.

felicity (felicity), Friday, 24 January 2003 15:00 (twenty-three years ago)

can anyone tell me what this means:

I pues a twos on que zat

A Nairn (moretap), Friday, 24 January 2003 16:17 (twenty-three years ago)

I love the Kindergarden Cop ref! ("I've got a headache and it's NOT A TUMAH")

original bgm, Friday, 24 January 2003 17:14 (twenty-three years ago)

That ref is great - he slips it in perfectly. This makes the second song I love off of Under Construction, which means it's time to check out the rest of the album.

Vinnie (vprabhu), Friday, 24 January 2003 20:48 (twenty-three years ago)

"Kyla park"? College Park, surely?

I love it (the song and the video) lots more than Work It. The video in particular has made me want to buy the album. And I love the sassy little white girl. And the sassier still little asian girl. And all the cameos (Eve's being the smoothest).

Adrian Langston (Adrian Langston), Friday, 24 January 2003 22:54 (twenty-three years ago)

naked as sin (naked as sin), Saturday, 25 January 2003 00:12 (twenty-three years ago)

i thought it was "my gizirl!" and "it's o-kiza!".

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Saturday, 25 January 2003 00:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Mitch is right. It's that kind of pig latin type of speaking where one inserts Zs in each word (before the last syllable?). I still can't figure out what most of it is saying though. There's "It's okay" "It's alright" and "my girl!" but the rest is harder.

Dan I., Saturday, 25 January 2003 05:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, I can't figure it out either (and neither could anyone else, based on "Double Dutch Bus" lyrics I've found on the Web).

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 31 January 2003 18:49 (twenty-three years ago)

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 31 January 2003 20:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Dan I., Friday, 31 January 2003 20:21 (twenty-three years ago)

I appreciate and respect that reference Mr. Blount.

s1utsky (slutsky), Saturday, 8 November 2003 03:34 (twenty-two years ago)

one month passes...
Is the vid version the Fatboy Slim remix? I think it is, Normo kills that shit.

Enrique (Enrique), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 14:23 (twenty-two years ago)

the vid version is the album version. the fatboy remix is terrible.

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 15:32 (twenty-two years ago)

no it isn't, it's much more danceable. not that it's much different, but...

Enrique (Enrique), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 15:42 (twenty-two years ago)

it's only a Normo remix by name remember

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 16:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Could you explain that Steve? I like the remix. I'd rather listen to the original but I'd rather dance to the remix.

Nick H (Nick H), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 16:45 (twenty-two years ago)

well something that never occurred to me until fairly recently when pointed out by professional practitioners and acquaintances of mine in the remix bizness was how many people at the top of the pile end up just lending their name to a remix at the request of the label for a nominal fee but leave the bulk (if not entirety) of the production to a studio bod keen to buckle his remix belt for peanuts and boost his own profile within the inner circle of studio techs perhaps. certainly the last few Cook remixes suggest this may be the case. another slightly different example would be the concept of Dr Dre as Exec Producer - it's not something i can vouch for sure but it does make good business sense i guess.

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 16:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I have heard of this practice, although it was from someone trying to convince me that Dre has hardly produced any of his own stuff in the last 15 years or so. The "Gossip Folks" remix does sound a little housey compared with Fatboy's normal remix jobs.

Nick H (Nick H), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 17:02 (twenty-two years ago)

two years pass...
This is like the best song of the decade.
