So the Doleful Lions contributed to a tribute album I've been helping put together and I really, really like their contribution:

Manishevitz vs. Doleful Lions sounds like a Jewish fraternity prank about to go terribly wrong

Manishevitz was great, anyone who hasn't already should go check out "Rollover" and "City Life", two great records though very different. "Rollover" is kinda downer folk stuff with really pretty finger-picked guitar and lots of great horns and strings on it (at points the great Fred Lonberg-Holm was involved, think he is on Rollover at least), "City Life" is a more upbeat electric record, touching at times on Roxy Music territory (also has lots of strings, horns, and keyboards etc., though done tastefully). I don't know, I was always really surprised that this band wasn't bigger. "Private Lines" from City Life may be my favorite song of theirs, but there is only a couple on Youtube, so here is "Black Hearts and Trombones" from Rollover. Most of their stuff is on Spotify though:

Also, Adam from Manishevitz has a new band called Sonoi that is very good. Will follow up at some point, assuming anyone wants to get into how good these records are.

Thanks for weighing in Aero. Seemingly Sonoi exists mostly in a vacuum, which is a shame. They are great live too (though I guess the drummer just bowed out). Adam seems to have somehow disappeared from everyone's radar outside of Chicago.
