He is your Tom Green?

He's their Johnny Knoxville.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 06:15 (twenty-three years ago)

he's not been on TV for a while. i didnt really like his series to be honest - humour dependent on fucking around with people's emotional pretence is not my cup of tea. the big squirrels attacking each other are great however. everyone is sick of the 'HELLO?!' character with his mobile phone - some idiots still quote that here and there. i think he's a got sitcom or new show for the BBC lined up now - he's a clever bloke so hopefully he will ditch the dated characters/sketches/themes and do something completely new.

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 13:07 (twenty-three years ago)

The Adam and Joe Show pisstake of it was so much funnier...

"Voulez-vous takez mi photograph... hahahaha! I'm not actually a tourist!"

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 14:22 (twenty-three years ago)

The following is meant as a jocular satire...if you are offended, get more fibre in your diet.

"...And now your hosts James Kimmleworth and Sir A. Dam Carolla"
(out sidles two smartly dressed chaps in tweed jackets and bowler caps)
Kimmlesworth: "Hello and Good Evening. And welcome to 'The Gentlemen Show'. Where saucy lads drink sherry and watch scantily clad saucy lasses get naughty."
Sir A. Dam: "Yesssss. And later on in the programme, we'll have a segment where a girl guide will say smarmy things to random passerby. But first here's a saucy segment of 'Jubblies on a Trampoline."
(3 minutes of Pointy-nosed, paleskinned girls in one piece bathing suits jump up and down on a trampoline smiling with bad teeth. The segment is cut short when it begin to rain heavily.)
Kimmleworth: "Ho ho ho, how absolutely smashing."
Sir A. Dam: "Yesssss. The blonde one is quite a saucy little trollop, was she not? Ho-HO!"
Kimmleworth: "Oh, absolutely, my good lad. How I would love to give her two decimeters of my freshly heated 'banger' "
(At this point, an angry Benny Hill comes in and assassinates Kimmleworth and Carolla.)

The first time I saw "Trigger Happy TV", I was practically crying with laughter. However, it is such a slave to formula that it doesn't really stand up to repeated viewings. Different animal costumes -- same gag.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 16:30 (twenty-three years ago)

HE IS NOT FUNNY.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 18:48 (twenty-three years ago)

He is funny, quite. True, he's formulaic, but I never
seem to get tired of his antics. And He's much, much,
smarter than Tom Green, who's long slipped into
unfunniness.

Squirlplise, Tuesday, 28 January 2003 20:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Dom Jolly rox my world. Yo.

Callum (Callum), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 20:17 (twenty-three years ago)

none can hold a candle to Chris Morris of course...his new film has been nominated for Best Short Film at the BAFTAS, lawks

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 20:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry, but I do think he is rubbish. i remember watching it several times thinking i had missed something, but no, not a laugh to be had there. I suppose he's not as bad as "Nevermind the Buzzc0cks", but that's like comparing something irritating to something which causes aktual physickal PaIN. I loved the way NME got all hawt over it, b/c he used clips ov eg Elasticka to sdtrk his riotously, joyously NOT FUNNY sketches, and b/c he had a coupla hilariously, eye-wateringly |\|0+ P|-||_||\||\|'/ catchphrases which the could pilfer for "thrills" (0r whatever the fukc it was called) which was/is also NOT FUNNY.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 21:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Lamarr's scripted gags on Monday's Buzzcocks really WERE painful! he made a lame half-arsed attempt at criticising The Streets as well in a jokey fashion (so you can see why i am so enraged of course) - basically Buzzcocks has crashed thru the floor but not come out the other side, not even Bill Bailey can save it. it did used to be a lot funnier tho - perhaps the gags were fresher and just less obviously scripted and hackneyed

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 21:30 (twenty-three years ago)

trigger happy is one of the things i miss most about living in the UK. not so much now that it's broadcast in the states....
don't see the tom green comparison: jolly always went for slighly absurd, not any kind of shock or gross-out factor. chris morris is much more green, in only that he also goes for shock value.

bucky wunderlick (bucky), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 22:16 (twenty-three years ago)

stevem buzzcox wz never funnier

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 23:34 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't see how this show in any way resembles Tom Green. Its more of a surrealist Candid Camera.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 04:21 (twenty-three years ago)

one of the last times i can recall actual
tears of laughter as a result of telly
- dom j crosses extremely slowly at the pelican
in a posh suburb, dressed as an old army sergeant to
the tune of 'dr. baker' by the beta band.

piscesboy, Wednesday, 29 January 2003 04:25 (twenty-three years ago)

"I don't see how this show in any way resembles Tom Green"

The formula is quite simillar: accosting hapless, innocent, unsuspecting bystanders with bizarre antics.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:23 (twenty-three years ago)

The funniest THTV thing ever was when he was dressed as a tortoise crawling across the road at a crosswalk, then when he was halfway across a guy dressed as a hare sprinted past him. That was brilliant.

The secret agent stuff is generally pretty hysterical, too.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:33 (twenty-three years ago)

green/knoxville? gawd no. he's not half as annoying. which is actually a compliment. or maybe this proves he failed.

nathalie (nathalie), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:34 (twenty-three years ago)

He is what Jackass would be if Jackass were created by people who were not retarded.

Weellllllll...I still think Candid Camera is a tiny smidge closer in flavor.
He is what Jackass would be if Jackass were created by people who were not retarded.
Thank you. Thats the most perceptive thing I've read all day.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 19:33 (twenty-three years ago)

four years pass...

dom joly, more like insufferable twat.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Thursday, 20 December 2007 12:11 (eighteen years ago)
