"ILX - NICER than ILM". Discuss.

robotman, Tuesday, 28 January 2003 21:48 (twenty-three years ago)

might make for an interesting turn around?

robotman, Tuesday, 28 January 2003 21:48 (twenty-three years ago)

We're a lot nicer than those fucking cockfarmers. Who the fuck do they think they are?

Nick A. (Nick A.), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 21:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Debates were never won via "niceness".

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 21:54 (twenty-three years ago)

But Alex you've never won a debate!

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 21:55 (twenty-three years ago)

is this where I get to be an 'apologist' for ILE.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 21:55 (twenty-three years ago)

(Sorry it was a total gimme)

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 21:55 (twenty-three years ago)

he has mark- but only in that 'crazy' mind of his.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 21:55 (twenty-three years ago)

judging by the lack of responses, ILM is less bitchy, less formal and more fun!!! hooray!!!

robotman, Tuesday, 28 January 2003 22:24 (twenty-three years ago)

wait until tomorrow (and many ppl here might still be reading the 200+ replies).

i wonder what andy paltridge would say.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 22:27 (twenty-three years ago)

something about toploader, maybe?

robotman, Tuesday, 28 January 2003 22:28 (twenty-three years ago)

and the fucking NME!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 22:31 (twenty-three years ago)

I wonder if he is going to be like that scruffy weird guy in Imagine who travels to John Lennon's house to discuss lyrics. Only going to Toploader's council flat. Do you know what I mean?

robotman, Tuesday, 28 January 2003 22:32 (twenty-three years ago)

god help us all

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 22:33 (twenty-three years ago)

I think you're all being a bit rough on poor Andy. After all, society breeds hatred in your heart, but baby, it's time to make a brand new start. We could all do worse than to follow that maxim.

TMFTML

TMFTML (TMFTML), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 22:34 (twenty-three years ago)

maybe andy will be the topic of toploader's next single?

robotman, Tuesday, 28 January 2003 22:38 (twenty-three years ago)

the ile hive mind is frightening. maybe it's one person generating all of the responses as everyone sames frightfully the same? i like ilm because the hive mind has no control over it. maybe that is why they don't like ilm? yer not in stepford anymore!!

dancing in the moonlight....

will andy kill jamie oliver after coming up with valid reasons why jamie was the reason why toploader got dropped. back to transcribing my interview!

robotman, Tuesday, 28 January 2003 22:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Robotman you too are part of the HIVE MIND

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 22:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Surely "ILM -- NICER than ILX"?

robotman you sick like dog :P

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 22:52 (twenty-three years ago)

i was freed by the pointlessness of ile! sisters and brothers I will only testify once to this miracle!*

What can I do to make my wife like music again?

*no need to flame me. my realisation broke me from the hive mind. i can smell, touch, have feelings again...feel so wonderful and alive!!!

robotman, Tuesday, 28 January 2003 22:54 (twenty-three years ago)

soon this robot will break free of ILM!!! And then ILX!!!! And then I am in the world again!!! Praise the Lord Greenspan!!

robot, Tuesday, 28 January 2003 22:56 (twenty-three years ago)

i kind of think of ilm and ile as the same, i dont really notice any difference between the two. or, really between them and the trash board also. and email/phone etc. basically, just people. i love people!

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 00:01 (twenty-three years ago)

the trash board! hmph!

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 00:04 (twenty-three years ago)

o.k., o.k, gareth...maybe 'certain types', sure, like most.

but HEY HO this is a music board.

buffalo springfield's

tell me Why?

classic or dud?

robotman, Wednesday, 29 January 2003 00:06 (twenty-three years ago)

there's a marginally warmer atmosphere on ILE, but I'm surprised to see ILE writers saying "I'm scared of ILM." The gap isn't that great. I like both, but I'm more interested in music debate, so I prefer here.

and hey, lay off andy. isn't there a hyper-sensitive toploader fan inside all of us?

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 00:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Fresh!

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 00:21 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm actually quite surprised by how many people on the ILE thread about ILM are scared of coming here, too. I didn't think we were THAT bad over here. Nerdy about music, yeah, but scary?

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 00:26 (twenty-three years ago)

i like ilm because the hive mind has no control over it. maybe that is why they don't like ilm?

cd b true of some ppl/prolly not most tho.

naked as sin (naked as sin), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 00:31 (twenty-three years ago)

I suddenly love ILM like an old friend I have neglected.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 03:15 (twenty-three years ago)

heh. I was wondering who'd say that first first.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 03:17 (twenty-three years ago)

woah. weird typo. evidently I was standing by a canyon.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 03:18 (twenty-three years ago)

The hive has been prodded by an angry child with a stick and the queen is asleep!

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 03:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Political analogy:

ILE is a hive and the Arab world
RJG is a naughty bee and Al-Qaeda
Becky is a child RJG stung and George W Bush
Nu-ILE is a fucked hive and the prospects for the ecosystem don't look good

It's 3.30 am. I have no idea what that will look like to me in the morning. Oh shit, it's totally the morning already.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 03:32 (twenty-three years ago)

ILE can kiss my buthole.

Carey (Carey), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 03:36 (twenty-three years ago)

...this could be a sadly 'appropriate' time for starting the thread
"When was the last time you thought that music and sex should be mutually exclusive?"
8-(

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 03:37 (twenty-three years ago)

the answer to that question is "always"

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 03:49 (twenty-three years ago)

LONG LIVE THE NEW ILM!

: - )

robotman, Wednesday, 29 January 2003 07:45 (twenty-three years ago)

i like ilm better than ile. but thats because i tell people what they want to hear.

di smith (lucylurex), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 07:49 (twenty-three years ago)

symptom of the hive mind?

ROBOTMAN, Wednesday, 29 January 2003 07:50 (twenty-three years ago)

i dont know why everyone gets so upset. ilm and ile have been great this week!

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 08:05 (twenty-three years ago)

i dunno Gareth , orphans *are* pretty resilent folk? but whose upset? i just dig ilm!!!

robotman, Wednesday, 29 January 2003 08:08 (twenty-three years ago)

i don't love everything

but i took a peak

and i might switch, ya flaming opinionated..um...wassnames.

gaz (gaz), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 09:29 (twenty-three years ago)

hang on, who's an orphan?

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 10:18 (twenty-three years ago)

i reached official orphan statusdom last week. but i was using it as an analogy of an 'orphaned' board (but it is indeed boring!)

robotman, Wednesday, 29 January 2003 10:26 (twenty-three years ago)

well robot you shoul've left off, really. you made some good points and then brzzzzt outta there man, btw Drunk post

gaz (gaz), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 10:28 (twenty-three years ago)

you and i have something in common there, mr robot

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 10:35 (twenty-three years ago)

it's odd, is it not, jim? how long have your parents been dead for?

robotman, Wednesday, 29 January 2003 10:36 (twenty-three years ago)

3 and 9 years respectively

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 10:38 (twenty-three years ago)

my original issue father died when i was seven but i never really knew. my mother died 4 years ago. my stepfather died last week. it's sort of odd to be young and have no support system, no matter how shoddy it was. i've just become very resilent since my mother died. but still; it's strange. like umm...what do you do at christmas? etc. oh well. it's probably going to get better as time goes on.

robotman, Wednesday, 29 January 2003 10:41 (twenty-three years ago)

My life is too short for ILE.

Music is like 30% of my life, and ILM takes up too much time already. If I had ILM for the other 70% of my life, I'd be dead.

phil jones (interstar), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:15 (twenty-three years ago)

but phil it's free!!

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:16 (twenty-three years ago)

phil- can we have a statisacal analysis of how you spend yr life. make it in pie charts and use colour so you don't bore us ;-)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:55 (twenty-three years ago)

ILE is nicer because the people there are looking for friends. There's no binding shared interest (no matter how murky "loving" music is), so the folks there are probably just lonely. So of course they're nicer. ILMers on the other hand, are here to crush the forces of evil who would poke fun at their idols (be it Eminem, the Ramones, Hoodoo Gurus or Nazareth).

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Hoodoo Gurus = suxor.

TMFTML (TMFTML), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 16:07 (twenty-three years ago)

ILE is nicer because the people there are looking for friends.

!!!

gygax!, Wednesday, 29 January 2003 16:11 (twenty-three years ago)

!!! indeed.

I give up on ILE re: Becky Lucas. The old advice just to ignore is dull but now definitely best. I don't know how this transfers to the international situation.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 30 January 2003 09:59 (twenty-three years ago)

er,what international situation?

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 30 January 2003 10:20 (twenty-three years ago)

ten years pass...

Still is

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Thursday, 10 October 2013 15:20 (twelve years ago)

ILM is definitely nicer.

Treeship, Thursday, 10 October 2013 15:25 (twelve years ago)

the ile hive mind is frightening. maybe it's one person generating all of the responses as everyone sames frightfully the same? i like ilm because the hive mind has no control over it. maybe that is why they don't like ilm? yer not in stepford anymore!!
― robotman, Tuesday, January 28, 2003 10:44 PM (10 years ago)

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Thursday, 10 October 2013 15:27 (twelve years ago)

i mean, the hivemind would be one thing if it was nice.

Treeship, Thursday, 10 October 2013 15:29 (twelve years ago)

do you think there is an ilm hivemind?

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Thursday, 10 October 2013 15:58 (twelve years ago)

there seems to be multiple perspectives on most ilm threads, where that is not the case so much on every ile thread. i think i still post to ile more though. the ilm hivemind i've noticed usually has to do with blind hatred toward all things "twee" or indie.

Treeship, Thursday, 10 October 2013 16:03 (twelve years ago)

Algerian Goalkeeper I think it's time for your glass of warm milk and lie down.

Matt DC, Thursday, 10 October 2013 16:04 (twelve years ago)

one of these days matt dc will say something NICE to me

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Thursday, 10 October 2013 16:40 (twelve years ago)

:D

check yr poptimism (imago), Thursday, 10 October 2013 17:07 (twelve years ago)

Warm glass of milk and a lie down sounds pretty nice, tbh.

emil.y, Thursday, 10 October 2013 17:12 (twelve years ago)

Also can I have some slippers and a hot water bottle?

emil.y, Thursday, 10 October 2013 17:12 (twelve years ago)

the ilm hivemind i've noticed usually has to do with blind hatred toward all things "twee" or indie.

And urge to mention prog and describe everything that's any good as prog... though that's happened a few times before

Tommy McTommy (Tom D.), Thursday, 10 October 2013 17:30 (twelve years ago)

Thats just one particular contingent of ilm though, right? Progbs & co.

Treeship, Thursday, 10 October 2013 17:33 (twelve years ago)

never really felt like there was a pronounced difference in the way ppl talk about shit on ILM and ILX respectively, but some posters here obv do. kind of get the impression that a number of ilxors have wasted way too many words on talking about music over the years and now find the whole process intrinsically embarrassing, which tbf I have a degree of empathy for

when I was Ted Croker man I couldn't picture this (DJ Mencap), Thursday, 10 October 2013 17:34 (twelve years ago)

Thats just one particular contingent of ilm though, right? Progbs & co.

I suppose

Tommy McTommy (Tom D.), Thursday, 10 October 2013 17:36 (twelve years ago)

haha mencap otm

still plenty of twee all over ilm tho, hostility to it is old as the board itself iirc?

flopson, Thursday, 10 October 2013 21:01 (twelve years ago)

summary : people need more hugs.
real or virtual.
my findings : ILE = pussycats, ILM = bad tempered feral fuckers who need some warm milk
that said, fuck twee indie.

mark e, Thursday, 10 October 2013 21:25 (twelve years ago)

original ilm was twee friendly iirc

۩, Friday, 11 October 2013 16:44 (twelve years ago)

thanks obama

brand nubian wafers (bnw), Friday, 11 October 2013 17:04 (twelve years ago)

ILX music snobs definitely politer than ILX film snobs.

I wish to incorporate disco into my small business (chap), Friday, 11 October 2013 18:31 (twelve years ago)

have a blessed day :)

lorde willin' (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 11 October 2013 18:50 (twelve years ago)

Cannot think of anyone on ILM I would consider a music snob.

۩, Friday, 11 October 2013 18:52 (twelve years ago)

Yeah fair point actually. Certainly some film snobs knocking around ILE on the other hand. ILM still wins.

I wish to incorporate disco into my small business (chap), Friday, 11 October 2013 18:55 (twelve years ago)

Plenty of the twee huggers are still around ilx

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Saturday, 12 October 2013 16:00 (twelve years ago)

Tweepologists

Treeship, Saturday, 12 October 2013 16:03 (twelve years ago)

WAKE UP TWEEPLE!

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Saturday, 12 October 2013 16:04 (twelve years ago)

they're either unwilling or unable realize that the ENTIRE innocent smoothies aesthetic is working against them.

Treeship, Saturday, 12 October 2013 16:11 (twelve years ago)

prog aversion is the strangest thing, some uptight pathology on display

reggie (qualmsley), Saturday, 12 October 2013 16:33 (twelve years ago)

Ilm is more prog friendly than most places.

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Saturday, 12 October 2013 16:34 (twelve years ago)

one of the things i like about this watering hole. other places are cliched enough to be almost godwin's law about prog, like rick wakeman was a nazi and johnny rotten winston churchill. lots of open minds here

reggie (qualmsley), Saturday, 12 October 2013 16:41 (twelve years ago)

sure, lemmy collects nazi paraphernalia, and he was in hawkwind, but that's no reason to smear gentle giant

reggie (qualmsley), Saturday, 12 October 2013 16:42 (twelve years ago)

the difference between ilm and other places is that there are many people here who can speak coherently about lots of different stuff. there is a genuine love for many genres. other message boards i've seen are a lot narrower.

scott seward, Saturday, 12 October 2013 16:42 (twelve years ago)

scott otm. i am not a prog fan necessarily, but a lot of the antipathy you hear toward it in other environments is probably just the conventional punk wisdom of 1979 regurgitated by people who watched the E! true hollywood story of the sex pistols, if this exists

Treeship, Saturday, 12 October 2013 17:06 (twelve years ago)

More likely read nme. Which always had anti prog barbs

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Saturday, 12 October 2013 17:23 (twelve years ago)

The hilarious thing about that is that lydon loved van den graaf more than any punk bands

lorde willin' (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Saturday, 12 October 2013 18:07 (twelve years ago)

ILM has certainly gotten less zingy since I first joined, which I appreciate. And it's "I Love Music" not "I Love A Music Genre", I love seeing the enthusiasm for things that are outside my comfort zone. Frankly, it's what motivates me to check things out! When I see some thread blowing up, I usually take a look and a listen.

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Saturday, 12 October 2013 18:09 (twelve years ago)

i do too! i mean i'm old and what the hell do i care about Haim but i ended up listening to their stuff anyway. even watched like half a live show on youtube. ilm can always make me listen to stuff.

scott seward, Saturday, 12 October 2013 18:11 (twelve years ago)
