what were Terris like?

a few years ago they were the NME's brightest hopes, tehn they disappeared, so quickly that I never heard anything by them, or even picked up the slightest idea of waht they were like.

So what *were* they like?

nyurgh! a typo.

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 21:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Bloody awful, if the track I heard was anything to go by. Another example of picking anything, just anything, as the next-great-white-guitar-hope.

Campag Vellocette to thread! Possibly to tell me how badly I've misspelt their name.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 21:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Were they like These Animal Men but less cute?

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 21:44 (twenty-three years ago)

thats Velocet, and i wont hear a word against Pete Voss or 'To Lose La Trek'

Terris were dull indie plod with Jon Bon Jovi on vocals.

Campag Velocet had one great single but I can't say the rest did that much for me. Once they lost the droning guitar they were just some tedious indie-hop twaddle.

ah but you see I wasn't even remotely joking - the singer of Terris sounds INCREDIBLY like JBJ, not just in an amusing sort-of way.

HE WASN'T JON BON JOVI HE WAS ERIC CARTMAN WHEN WILL YOU PEOPLE EVER LEARN?!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 30 January 2003 11:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Terris were surprisingly good live though, in that stomping-noisey-faux-psychedelic-indie kind of way that gets boring when you see them for a second time. They had an analogue synth bass too, which was good, and produced some wicked squelchy noises. The first EP was OK, but the album was AWFUL. NME just pick anything that's kind of anguished/passionate (read 'loud' and 'miserable') and call it The Best New Band Ever. Singer sounded like Cartman being fucked by JBJ.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 30 January 2003 12:13 (twenty-three years ago)

I went to school with some of the band and I think we all still live in the same area. The singer who I think was called Gavin acted like a bit of a tit onstage but the others are great. I've seen them lots live and heard the album once.

I quite enjoyed them live especially the squelchy synth bass which they had instead of four a string. They bassboardist had a stylophone ontop of his main bass thing too which was good.

Someone told me recently the drummer left (was his name Owen?) which is a shame. Hope they do some more stuff because I like them as people.

What did they actually sound like? Not much like Bon Jovi, not even the singer, despite what you might have _read_. The singer did take himself very seriously. They might have been very indie but I've not heard enough indie to know.

I saw 'em support Stereolab in TJs in Newport a few years back - dreadful. In fact I worked with their guitarist for a while too now I think about it. He got kicked out (of his job, that is) for smoking too much weed and not turning up. As to the band, Nick's description of the singer is spot on, the analogue bass player danced like a babboon (which was amusing at least), the guitarist was alternately spindly or thrashy. But at least it was different - for about three months. When the NME made them 'tip for the year' our office laughed its socks off.

i was at that gig and will concur that the keyboard/bassist player danced in an amusing fashion.
Not as amusing as watching members of the 60ft dolls getting fatter in le pub

I always thought the drummer was the most ape like. The way he beat awat at his kit reminded me of Planet of the Apes.

Does this mean there are some more peoplw from S. Wales around here than I thought?

FUCKING AMAZING! Well Fabricated Lunacy is, why it isn't near the top of any 2000 - 2005 poll is beyond me. What a single! Anguished, (not miserable!)anthemic blasting scatter shot defiance, they were the last truly great indie band before the Stokes et all launched the mullet revolution. Never bothered much with the album but that single, which I coincidently bought same day as Loveless and a fantastic compilation with Sugar on, is up there with Shanks and Bigfoot in the pantheon of early noughties unimpeachable musical genius.

they were kind of travis-meets-kelis. < /my dad>

My mate played football in a Terris 'Fabricated Lunacy' promo tshirt last week. We laughed at him
