He sure fuckin' does.

Millar (Millar), Thursday, 30 January 2003 01:16 (twenty-three years ago)

new album. i want to hear ILX thoughts.

Brock K. (Brock K.), Thursday, 30 January 2003 02:04 (twenty-three years ago)

it's quite good. a tad overlong, but much more stable and dynamic than 'Tyranny of Distance', and ultimately better (even if he does boost a melody from 'Hair'). sure to be one of the best releases of the first half of the year.

colin mcelligatt, Thursday, 30 January 2003 02:23 (twenty-three years ago)

So who is he?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 30 January 2003 02:30 (twenty-three years ago)

yay him. going to see him for the 3rd time in as many months tomorrow. really really really hoping that he'll be selling the CD early. i've been listening to the "Where Have All The Rude Boys Gone?" mp3 from the Lookout! site nonstop for the past few weeks.

it would take a lot for it to top Tyranny Of Distance for me personally, but I wouldn't put it past him...the new stuff sounds great live, and he is shockingly good live. i'm so used to loving a record and then seeing someone live and not getting half the energy or tightness of the record, but it's all there with him, even if sometimes carrying the rest of the band.

2003: Melody Is Back!

Seriously, between this and the Zwan album (and the Hot Hot Heat album I'm still listening to a lot), big unapologetically pushy pop melodies are taking over my brain. Better than The Tyranny of Distance? Too soon to say.

Ned: peep this.

Nick Mirov (nick), Thursday, 30 January 2003 02:53 (twenty-three years ago)

*reads* Mm, I dunno, comparisons to Stephen Merritt usually cause hives. I do think I've heard some Chisel at some point, though.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 30 January 2003 03:26 (twenty-three years ago)

comparisons to Stephen Merritt...what? I don't hear that AT ALL. Somebody needs a new publicist.

paul cox (paul cox), Thursday, 30 January 2003 06:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah. I don't hear Stephen Merritt either, not in the melodies or the lyrics. Usually the generic Ted Leo comparison is to a well-read version of Elvis Costello.

Nick Mirov (nick), Thursday, 30 January 2003 07:36 (twenty-three years ago)

The new album is amazing. "Where Have All..", "The High Party", "Dead Voices", "The Crane Takes Flight"...all amazing songs. It is indeed a very good year for guitar pop so far.

"The Ballad of the Sin Eater" live will throw out your back.

robmitchum., Thursday, 30 January 2003 14:13 (twenty-three years ago)

I've seen him play solo a few times, it was f'in boring. But he might be better with the Pharmacists. Last time I saw him, he played for 2 hours, by himself, just guitar and vocals. We couldn't leave. It was lame.
But yeah, I was just listening to Chisel's "8 AM All Day" like 2 days ago. That album rocks hard.

Nick A. (Nick A.), Thursday, 30 January 2003 14:16 (twenty-three years ago)

""The Ballad of the Sin Eater" live will throw out your back. "

fucking a. the first time i saw him, he banged a tambourine against his head pretty damn hard during the last verse, it kinda scared me. i think i would like to see him play an f'in boring solo show sometime, though.

Al (sitcom), Thursday, 30 January 2003 14:39 (twenty-three years ago)

the sin eaters were one of the greatest live bands I've ever seen. teddy has the golden touch. the 2 solo shows I've seen him do were both great. can't wait to see him with a band again though... and hear the new album.

simon 803 (simon 803), Thursday, 30 January 2003 15:22 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't know, maybe I was just bored because I'm a casual fan, not a drooling fanboy (I like the last 2 Chisel albums more than any Ted Leo solo stuff). But like I've said before, I can't think of ANYONE that I would want to see perform for 2 hours straight. The other aspect of that show was that we had to drive 2 hours back home after the show and go to work the next day, and we couldn't leave until he was done due to circumstances beyond our control, so that added to the annoyance as well.

Nick A. (Nick A.), Thursday, 30 January 2003 15:25 (twenty-three years ago)

didn't ted leo get into a fight with bob pollard?

or wait, that's his brother chris, the lapse guy.

i get my generic indie dudes confused. the "leo" factor doesn't help.

seems like i heard ted leo got all upset one night in san diego cause his equipment failed... whining didn't leave a very favorable impression...

how's that for random, unconfirmed, and kinda weak gossip?
m.

ps ted's aight. i like how he shares air space with the secret stars, etc...

msp, Thursday, 30 January 2003 16:50 (twenty-three years ago)

it was ted and danny leo that got into a fight with bob pollard. hilarious story of bob being a fucking wanker. I agree on not wanting to see many people play for 2 hours straight. Teds always been fairly brief when I've seen him.

simon 803 (simon 803), Thursday, 30 January 2003 17:37 (twenty-three years ago)

I like the last 2 Chisel albums more than any Ted Leo solo stuff

Bingo!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 30 January 2003 17:43 (twenty-three years ago)

ted leo is sweet, i hope i can see him live this year

tedissweet, Sunday, 14 May 2006 04:28 (twenty years ago)
