Musicians vs Listeners

They buy good stuff sometimes but usually shit, then they moan about how everything sucks, then blame the advertisers. They come up with blindingly stupid and irrelevant opinions that they insist they have a 'right' to, and their insights usually are predicated on whatever obtrudes into their bubbleworlds the least. They're quite content to fill their endless pointless hours with 'entertainment', as long as it's provided by already-rich 'professionals', but can't tolerate a few stray decibels from the pub down the street. Now they've finally revealed their true nature and decided they don't even want to pay for it anymore, you can see the unabashed glee that artistic types will be brought to their level of harvesting dingleberries for a living! Well fuck 'em I say. Every other class of society has been brutally persecuted and purged at one point or another so why not the non-'creative types'? Remember they're the ones who make the world a boring, hellish ordeal! ('Cept the ones who do the dirty jobs of course. Keeping the toilets clean and keeping the drug pipelines open, it's OK cuz we don't NOTICE you)

Time for an anti-audience org - Consumers Ultimately Need Trashing. Patron saints: Axl Rose, Fred Durst, Lars Ulrich, GG Allin, Whitney Houston

dave q, Thursday, 30 January 2003 12:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Uh musicians are listeners to. Except they mainly relish in their own sounds. Fuck'em. I bask in my minority complex: realize that I won't ever achieve the same genius level as Fred Durst. heh

(listeners too. blame it on english being my 2349586th language)

nathalie (nathalie), Thursday, 30 January 2003 12:13 (twenty-three years ago)

i know a lot of musicians who should rather be just listeners...

anyone can be creative- creating shit doesnt count

insectifly (insectifly), Thursday, 30 January 2003 12:56 (twenty-three years ago)

"count"? WTF? Are you the logkeeper, the validator? I think shit created by a creative mind trumps slick & perfect shit created by mercenaries...every time!

matt riedl (veal), Thursday, 30 January 2003 18:48 (twenty-three years ago)

99% of being a successful musician is listening, and it amazes me to this day that almost that large a percentage of musicians don't realize this.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 30 January 2003 18:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Obv musicians are listeners, and what nick said. However, isn't this thread a joke response to the "why isn't music free" one? Why come you didn't post this there, dave?

(Plus I couldn't figure out who 'they' were until about midway through the paragraph.)

"Relish in their own sound?"

Judging from comments in interviews and from
real life experience, musicians are generally
distant from their own music,
if they aren't actively embarassed by it.
MC's and producers are different of course -
in hip-hop, whole careers are based around
bravado and self-endorsement.

Squirlplice, Thursday, 30 January 2003 19:23 (twenty-three years ago)

At least hip hop artists are upfront w/their ego mania. Most others put on that fake humbleness for the cameras and interviewers, and then act like the divas they are other times.

georgiaboy (georgiaboy), Thursday, 30 January 2003 20:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry, Insectfly...is that a complete thought or are you still trying to compose the rest of your sentence?

matt riedl (veal), Thursday, 30 January 2003 23:01 (twenty-three years ago)

The only thing worse than listeners are 'musicians' who only dabble as a hobby in their spare time after getting home from their college courses/decent paying job and then bitch about how 'I don't see any reason why not to give it away for free on the internet, it's how I do' and have a home studio all to themselves where they can do ANYTHING THEY WANT yet still manage to produce nothing but crap wank that nobody wants to hear.
