I think you want something a bit bigger than a gorilla for 20UKP. I don;t really know the UK market, but for say $500 US you can get a real nice amp (about equivalent to 300 UKP, right?) for ex, I got a great old musicman head for $200, and $300 is more than enought for a nice 2x12 cabinet. Fender bandmaster heads run about $400 here. Not bad for the price. You can probably find a hefty Trace Elliot combo for around $500 or so if you are lucky. And you want that type of amp. I'm sure there are a number of new Fender , Gibson, et al tube and solid state amps available in your price range if you are more comfortable with a new one with a warranty. Just go to a music shop and try some out. If you post the type of sound you are going for (some examples of guitar sound/bands you like) i can give more specific advice...

I guess I want a nice solid, clean sound. I guess a good example would be Mogwai. Maybe I should just ask them what they use...

I am a big fan of the solid state Fenders
