Thus disqualifying Japan, New Zealand, Jamaica, Indonesia, the UK, Ireland, Madagascar, Iceland, and the Phillipines. Also Cuba, Greenland, Antigua & Barbuda, the Bahamas, Bermuda, Wake Island, Trinidad and Tobago, and Taiwan.

Per Capita still applies, unless you don't want it to.

Per capita: Germany, from Back to Basic Channel
regardless of population: US, don't even try to argue (OK, you can try, it'll be fun shooting you down)

He's just Bach with a typo

andy, Thursday, 30 January 2003 23:42 (twenty-three years ago)

I agree with Germany. Or possibly Spain

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Thursday, 30 January 2003 23:54 (twenty-three years ago)

NORWAY

Knut Hamsun, Friday, 31 January 2003 05:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Norway, Finland, Sweden.

For the "worst music producing nation", I nominate Monaco. I only know one band from Monaco, actually.

Siegbran (eofor), Friday, 31 January 2003 15:04 (twenty-three years ago)

India, dude, India. They got mad population, an ill amount of diversity, and skeezo on the shiznit.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 31 January 2003 15:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 3 March 2003 02:54 (twenty-three years ago)

M Matos (M Matos), Monday, 3 March 2003 08:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Come to think of it, I vote for Germany, although Germany's musical heyday was in the 17th and 18th centuries...

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 3 March 2003 13:36 (twenty-three years ago)

And, OK, 19th too. Not forgetting about Brahms here...

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 3 March 2003 13:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Even for 1970 and onwards, I'd still vote for Germany.

Siegbran (eofor), Monday, 3 March 2003 13:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Other than Kraftwerk, Krautrock bites. And then what is left? Boney M? Modern Talking? Enigma?

No, definitely not Germany, but the German speaking world gave the world a lot of great music before 1900.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 3 March 2003 13:41 (twenty-three years ago)

boney m are better than brahms from almost every possible perspective

mark s (mark s), Monday, 3 March 2003 13:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Other than Kraftwerk, Krautrock bites. And then what is left?

Krautrock in the 70s, the Neue Deutsche Welle, electro and thrash in the 80s, techno in the 90s and of course, despite all the ILM detractors, trance from '92 onwards.

And Modern Talking was at least sillier than Wham!. Did they ever have hits in the UK/US by the way or were they spared from the sight of those clowns?
