you can't mess with my drunken style

Can everyone tell/remind me of songs where the MC flips it all beery for the chorus, slurring along like an uncle at a wedding reception.

At the moment I've got:

Raekwon - Rainy Dayz remix(pure gospel)
Diamond D - The Hiatus remix
that EPMD tune where Erik sings So Amazing.

that's thug lovin' man.

Alkaholiks - Only When I'm Drunk

Oh, and especially ODB's version of First Time Ever I Saw Your Face

ODB owns this thread.

I want trax where the MC just can't hold himself back from singing along with the chorus, ODB tends to enforce his (inspired) incompetence on everything he does.

I saw this 'Day In the Life' of Method Man on MTV amd he was spouting off on how his lyrics aren't an enticement or a recommendation, and that kids should not be affected by the life he espouses, Cue the next nite with Redman guilt-trippin him into boodles of Hennessy. Cue Meth crumpled against a dressing room wall.

I want stuff like that.

Drunk all the way through: "Cypher Convention" by the Lost Souls.

There's a pathetic example at the end of Danny Boy by House of Pain, but it's not exactly the ill-advised but exhilaritingly unhinged lurch into singing yer after

eek1 is that Lost Souls from Brighton? i reckon you could get drunk on fame in that town - is that them? the title makes 'em sound straight0edge...

are those hacker mock-errors just ways of hiding spelling mistaXors?

nebbesh (nebbesh), Friday, 31 January 2003 13:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes the Lost Souls are from Brighton, and "Cypher Convention" is anything but sXe: it's all about real ale and cider. Their EP is well worth it.

Tim - do you live in brighton? i'd like to hear about the scene on you blog? or just becoz. brighton hip-hop scene to me always seemed to me like Rising Damp without Leonard Rossiter.

regional hip-hop? don't care where it's from, i love it.

I don't like Brighton one bit, but everything on Janomi so far has been fine. I think Zebra Traffic is based there, too. People whose taste I respect say good things about Aerosolik but I can't hear anything special on the couple of records I have.

I don't really know anything about any hip hop scenes, I'm afraid. There are certainly some fantastic records coming out of places like Nottingham, Huddersfield and Wolverhampton, though.

Elephant Man's lisp makes him sound pretty smashed. Check out "Elephant Message."

hi cybele!

i like Skinner's moment in "Weak Become Heroes" - as excellently observed by Michelangelo Matos - where he "loses focussh" and the end of the word actually blurs!
