gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 12:29 (twenty-three years ago)

kazaa is decent

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 12:54 (twenty-three years ago)

WinMX was my choice before slsk (decent selection, fairly stable client), so that's probably where I'm headed next.

Siegbran (eofor), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 13:43 (twenty-three years ago)

kazaa = good for uk garage, anyway.

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 14:02 (twenty-three years ago)

then go buy records, you babies

Al (sitcom), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 14:21 (twenty-three years ago)

If you are planning on using any version of KaZaa, stick to KaZaa Lite...because theres (allegedly) no spyware or extra "surprises" hidden within the installer.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 14:25 (twenty-three years ago)

kazaa is a virus whore though. i've gotten numerous virus' using kazaa, just be careful what you download.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 14:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey...is Morpheus and Bearshare still up and running?
If so, we should join both (just in case the RIAA knocks one of them out, another is still available.)

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 14:45 (twenty-three years ago)

i've been away... what's happened to soulseek? Is it still going? I didn't think it was big enough for the RIAA.

Enid Roach (Enid Roach), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 15:04 (twenty-three years ago)

i like gareths idea.

anthony easton (anthony), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 23:41 (twenty-three years ago)

i still fly the flag of imesh - it has 90% of what i'm after and is dead easy to use. always hated winmx, fiddly nonsense.

Charlie (Charlie), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 23:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Supposedly soulseek will be back soon...the guy had to change ISPs or something...

Brian the Snorf, Thursday, 6 February 2003 06:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Brian, where did you get this info?

Soothe my troubled mind.

kdx. http://www.haxial.com/products/kdx/

rather than peer to peer, it uses a traditional client-server model, and thus can never be shut down as a whole. searching for what you like takes a little more dilligence, but if you run a server or find one that caters to your tastes you should have no trouble finding what you want. I've been running a server for about a year now, and I've been able to get nearly everything I've ever looked for, music or otherwise.

paul cox (paul cox), Thursday, 6 February 2003 06:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, posting a link around here is seldom what it seems. Thanks, tho.

Kenan Hebert, Thursday, 6 February 2003 06:44 (twenty-three years ago)

And this looks to be a constantly updated "status" page for slsk: http://z.cccp.at/soulseek

(what's with the new HTML tag checker?)

paul cox (paul cox), Thursday, 6 February 2003 06:48 (twenty-three years ago)

what's with the new HTML tag checker?

It sucks, that's what. It doesn't know a proper tag from a hole in the ground.

I highly reccommend Direct Connect. Basically one person with a permanent connection would run the http://www.neo-modus.com/">server. The server itself is very little drag on your system resources, and it sets up a hub for all others to connect to with the http://dcplusplus.sourceforge.net/">client. Basically it's like your running your own little soulseek or napster network, as long as the host is online. You can browse each other's files and download what you wish.

Jeff-PTTL (Jeff), Thursday, 6 February 2003 13:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, I second Direct Connect, if someone were to host it we could have an ILX network

nick.K (nick.K), Thursday, 6 February 2003 21:26 (twenty-three years ago)

I was using Grokster for Commercial stuff but its got lots of nasty Spyware crap.

Savin All My Love 4 u (Savin 4ll my (heart) 4u), Thursday, 6 February 2003 22:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Direct Connect is good by me. I can't offer the permanent connection but I can put wads of stuff up there.

Ian SPACK (Ian SPACK), Thursday, 6 February 2003 22:45 (twenty-three years ago)

has kazaa improved while i was away from it ?
it seems pretty good now, loads of sources, they even
had the acapella of 'shined people' by praise cats.
