four & a 1/2 years later i still don't know whether dj shadow sampled him or not. but. i bought a pohjola cd today (out of at least a hlaf-dozen cheap-priced ones i saw in my hometown's record shops). it's titled everyman, is from 1983, has lotsa synths on it. listening to it a second time i now start to wonder whether i should've picked a different one...
there's no other thread on pohjola on ilm eiher, is there?

Never heard of him before, but I am madly in love with the track Lindstrom put on his LateNightTales comp. Looks like I'm going to have to find more now...

Maybe you should have picked a different artist.

the record i saw in the shop way back when was actually a Jukka Tolonen record, but another shop in berkeley has maybe 5 of his records, all for $20+. he definitely was sampled by DJ Shadow. i downloaded the album it was on and it was sort of happy go lucky finish folky jazz. besides the sampled song, i wasn't really feeling it and never bought any of the albums.

Hi there, Rockist-O! Er, if yours was a comment on my post -- I did actually pick several other artists as well. (Pohjola ain't too unfamiliar to me anyway, I've seen him live as well:)

He was in Tasavalen Presidenti (sp?) wasn't he? I have one of theirs and 2 Tolonens. I cracked out the TP a couple years ago and was surprised how much of it I remembered from my 70s prog years. It still holds up musically but the lyrics are kind of an afterthought.

Tolonen was in Tasavallan Presidentti, yes. And although Pohjola and Tolonen have played together, I don't think Pohjola was a permanent part of TP's line-up. (In TP there was another Pekka, tho -- flautist & saxophonist Pekka Pöyry. (Pohjola did play in Wigwam for awhile, however.))
